Hi arfon, The MAKEDEV looks OK. If you look in the dev you should see a folder labeled dvb with the adapters listed in it if the make dev was successful. I was told that some of these Avermedia sticks had a different chip and hence needed a different firmware driver. I wonder if that is the case wit...

Well arfon. I have had a look at that French site. It seems to me they are talking about compiling in V4L2 DVB I think it was, to the kernel. As this is already in Puppy 1.0 that shouldn't matter. Also I don't think it makes any difference that your device id is 850b. By the way the puppy I was usin...

Hi Arfon, The dmesg was from a later one of Jemimahs Puppeees I will have to see if I can find a copy of Puppeee 1.0 and set it up again. If you have the necessary files there is a fw fine and a ko file as I recall but as you point out the needed files are in Puppeee 1.0. I do need to go back and re...

Hi arfon, Noted on your antenna etc. Looking at your dmesg it seems that the stick has been recognized. It is not however connecting . Here is some of my dmesg section from Puppeee. I think 4 but should be similar. I have video running in this one. usb 1-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd a...

Yes that is correct.

The one I have looks like this. Not very good image but you get the idea.

Hi arfon again, I'm having a slow day. Age is catching up I think. Rereading your post I'm beginning to think that you may have an antenna problem. I'll be pleased to look at your dmesg and lsmod though to satisfy myself. If they are OK then it will probably be antenna and tuning which of course won...

Hi arfon. Gee, I don't know what happened there. My reply got lost. You are lucky as I haven't looked in here in a while. Questions. Puppy version? Unplug and plug in your stick then run dmesg in terminal. Down near the bottom you should see something about the stick being plugged in. Copy and paste...

Hi arfon, You were in luck as I've not looked in here for a quite a while. Its so long back I've almost forgotten how I set this all up. The first thing to do is to let me know which version of Puppy. I don't know if your stick should make a difference but we'll see. The second thing is unplug and p...

Hi jemimah, Couldn't find gpsd in this puppeee so I installed Disciples pet. Plugged in the gps and fired up gpsd with the following switches gpsd -b -n -N -D2 /dev/ttyUSB0 Then I cranked up TangoGPS and it ran quite nicely. I tried the Google Image and it was ok. Pity I couldn't go to the Google Ma...

Thanks jemima, I don't use Tango Gps or the other one (Name escapes me) because of the problem getting maps. Ozi Explorer runs with the readily available AUSLIG maps from the Aust mapping service and covers the whole of the country. I have another sets of all city and towns. Unfortunately they are u...

Thanks jemimah,
I'll do that as soon as i can

In the meantime I noticed this line in dmesg with nothing I could find similar in the puppeee dmesg.

Serial: 8250/16550 driver $Revision: 1.90 $ 4 ports, IRQ sharing enabled

Thanks for the reply jemimah. Here are the files you requested. They are from puppy 4.2 running in eee701SD. I plugged the GPS in last and you can see it at the tail of the dmesg. I really do need to find out more about compiling and kernels. Its still a bit of a mystery to me. I compared these file...

Ozi in Wine, com ports, GPS and Puppeee on SD card

I have used several different Puppies with my eee701. Pupeee B4, Puppy 4.2 and puppy 4.3.1 to name a few. I install wine and then the Ozi Explorer program for my USB GPS . In each case running the Ozi port checker shows coms 1 to 255 with the dongle on com3 and everything works. Odd to me that the G...

Thanks for posting that rusoodle. I've been using it for ages to make slideshows with ManDVD. Vtpup did a great job. Gee wiz. I've been very remiss. I promised to get back to edoc on this way back in August. Had some time in hospital and surgery and it clean slipped my mind until I read the posts again yesterday. Sorry about that. Anyway to wrap it up. Following the steps I provided worked fine with Lucid. I also ...

Hi jemimah, Just gave this latest a try on my 701SD. It looks great and loads fast. The only snags are: I couldn't get wireless. It claimed not to find card even though enabled in bios. I tried to check with lsmod but didn't get a list of anything at all for some reason. Just headings Module Size an...

Ok edoc,

I have downloaded Lucid and have it running on DVD. I'll put it on a USB stick and try setting up the TV.

I think it should work just the same. I'll let you know how I fare.
