@Geoffrey
Thanks, works great. Doesn't open either the web page or the local folder but that's no problem.

Re: Copy (cloud service similar to Dropbox)
"Copy" seems like a nice alternative to Dropbox and similar services. I have just tried it and works fine, i'll create a pet for the client soon... Thanks for the link. Unfortunately the pet didn't work. I get an entry in the Internet menu but clicking it doesn't do anything. I'm running ...

BT sync is not quite an alternative
Same as Dropbox. Online backup and synchronization of files between phones and pcs and tablets but it's secure and free for unlimited storage. Not quite. BT sync needs both machines to be on at the same time. This means that while it is very useful there are cases where it is not as useful as Dropb...

666philb's script didn't work, here is a fixed version
The problem was the name of the downloaded file. This version uses wget -O to rename the downloaded file. It also drops rxvt, I don't see the point of opening another window to show thw wget progress. #!/bin/sh #set -x # Uncomment to see detailsof the commands. mkdir /tmp/dropboxinstaller wget -O /t...

T42 wireless works perfectly
If you have a T42 with Intel wireless it should work. Take a look at this discussion on the forum: http://www.murga.org/%7Epuppy/viewtopic ... highlight=

Ah, thanks. Does anyone have a list of computers that will boot multisession CDs? And, naturally, those that won't. Won't includes: IBM a21p, IBM T42p. Those are all I have with CD writers. I'll try making another multisession CD and see if it will boot on my other old machines before and after writ...

I can see all the files in the other sessions. I used the save button once. Which saved one folder and then rebooted which saved another. No problem seeing the files if I boot puppy from USB or another cd or dvd. The problem is simply that the bios can't find the operating system. This laptop burns ...

Multisession 1.0.6 fails to boot after saving
Looks like an interesting solution. By the way I bought a pack of Sony DVD-Rs today and tried puppy multisession 1.0.6. Again it fails to boot after saving. Rats! Does anyone else have the problem that the CD or DVD won't boot after saving a new session? If so are there any workarounds? My hardware...

Files deleted if not enough room to write back changes
I agree the DVD would be a good idea. I haven't tried a DVD yet because I simply haven't got any. I have tried a CD though (on 1.0.1, 1.0.5 and 1.0.6) and although Puppy seems to succesfully write the disk it isn't bootable afterwards. DVD would be ideal for the computer I use at work IBM T42p but m...

Files deleted if not enough room to write back changes
I was until, last night, a keen Puppy user. Now I'm not so sure. I have a 256MB USB stick that had (notice past tense) a nicely working Puppy 1.0.5 with wireless that worked beautifully on my IBM T42p laptop. Unfortunately I decided to download a few large files and then shutdown Puppy. There was no...

Load stuff into RAM on first use instead of at boot
I'm using Puppy 1.0.5 on a 256MB USB flash drive on an IBM T42p with Intel ipw2200 wireless. Works perfectly. But, it takes ages to boot and the reason is the time it takes to copy all the content of the flash drive to RAM disk; without that copy it would boot in less than a minute I'm sure. My sugg...

The light dawns
Discovered why running the Ethernet Wizard helped. At least I think this is what happens: the wizard kills the dhcpcd process and also deletes the dhcpcdxxx.pid file the it starts the demon again. Perhaps this isn't exactly what happens but the effect is the same. So, running the code as found in th...

Success
Now I have a recipe. I run the commands from the readme and then use the Ethernet/Network Wizard. I choose the interface created by the previous commands and then click the Auto_DHCP button. After a short delay it comes back green saying successful. If you can read this it definitely works because I...

Uninstalled firewall, got a little further.
I uninstalled the firewall and now I don't get the Operation not permitted error. And I can ping the access point. That's the good news. Unfortunately nothing else works. But it seems to be a name lookup problem. I forgot to try browsing to a web page by IP address; if I can browse a web site by IP ...

Wireless can't get online: ipw2200
I have problem with wireless. Connection to the access point seems to work but I still can't see the outside world. I downloaded ipw2200-1.0.1.tar.gz, followed the instructions in ipw2200_README.txt and got the following results: # iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. eth...
