Can't get SFS programs to run on Fatdog64 or Tahr64.

#1 Post by Tag365 »

For some reason I cannot get any SFS programs to run if I load them via SFS on Fatdog64 710 OR tahr64 6.0.5. If I load a program with the SFS loader, it shows in the programs menu, but then when I try to run it, nothing happens except it trying to access something for a short second. This is very confusing. I got around it in a bugged way when I tried to copy files to the save file and then running the program from the save file before, but I don't want to do that this time. So, what am I doing wrong?

Let's talk about Tahrpup64 6.0.5 only.

Are these SFS program packages 32bit programs or 64 bit programs?

If 32bit programs.
You need to have the 32bit compatibility libs SFS package loaded.

to run 32bit applications you'll need to install the 32bit-compatibilty.sfs.
http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... tahr64.sfs

Place it in /mnt/home

Load it by using menu->Setup->SFS-load-on-the-fly

After it's loaded, in a terminal (console) type:

Code: Select all

ldconfig
Best to copy and past this command into a console to use it. It is easy to get wrong if you type it into the console.

and then you're set to go.

IMPORTANT NOTE: if you want to install proprietary graphics drivers (nvidia/amd) install them after installing the 32bit compatibility.sfs or your 32bit apps may not work.

What is a specific program SFS that does not run?

Are you placing the SFS program package in /mnt/home?

Okay, I'm trying to get SuperTuxKart to work first. But even with the 32 bit compatibility patch it doesn't start on Tahr64. What to do now? Also, both SFS files are in /mnt/home as both you and the SFS loader suggest.

Can you provide a link to the SuperTuxKart SFS you are trying to use.

Well I got it from the SFS downloader program that came with Fatdog64 710, it should be found there. Try it.

Edited:

Tahrpup64 6.0.5

Try this one:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 737#982737
Make sure to unload the one you tried before loading this one.[/quote]
I got this to work in Tahrpup64 6.0.5.
If needed some dependency stuff that was missing in Tahrpup.
32bit compatibility sfs is loaded.

In Puppy Package Manager(PPM)
First Update the database. PPM>Configure
Search for and install these.
libopenal1_1.14
libbluetooth3_4.101

Nope, that didn't work either. Ironically that Fatdog64 SFS file I downloaded using that program didn't work properly on Fatdog64 either. So now what do I do?

For Fatdog 64 it also has a 32bit compatibility SFS that may need loaded.
Should be able to get it with the Fatdog SFS downloader program.
That SuperTuxKart SFS from Fatdog looks like it is 32bit.

I'm trying to fix Tahr64 first, so let's go back there. By the way when I first ran ldconfig it ended up showing up lots of messages of scname or something like that matching and not type. Does that change anything?

It did that to me too.
But 32bit stuff seems to run OK.

Could do a reboot just to make sure the SFS is still loading OK. Could be something in it that needs to be part of the bootup.
If it is listed in the SFS-load-on-the-fly it should load as part of bootup.

32bit comparability SFS is loaded.

Search for and install these.
libopenal1_1.14
libbluetooth3_4.101

Have you used this program before?
It sure seems to want to track you and get info about you to work on line.
I used it off-line, I hope.
Not sure I want to use it.

For future reference: The reason bigpup suggested that you try to get the application running in one Puppy at a time is that "Puppy" is not one operating system. It's a family of operating systems. An application which runs under one Puppy may need stuff to run under another: like trying to get the breaking system for a Ford F-150 truck to function properly when installed into a Fiesta.
