Xenialpup CE 7.5 / 25 Nov 2017
In my village there seems to be no public access point, but I tried it today with Ubuntu (live) and I got it. The internal adapter worked.
My idea about this project arose after I spoiled the network module on my smartphone. Simcard was taken out with a screwdriver, and accidentally pressed the button.

How did you do this? Did you install my .deb packages into Ubuntu and use the wlanmaker script?sancxjo wrote: but I tried it today with Ubuntu (live) and I got it. The internal adapter worked.
Or did you install a different system in Ubuntu?
I tried wlanmaker with two Android tablets and an iPhone. Both worked. So the difference must be subtle.
Problem finding the save on a USB flash drive.
Booting a live CD of Xenialpup 7.5
Making a save and putting the save on a USB flash drive.
Save is not being found when booting.
To fix had to make a manual change to the boot menu entry pmedia=cd to pmedia=usbflash
Because the boot menu is a read only, hard burn to the CD.
Have to manually change the pmedia= at each boot.
So, it seems booting from a CD install will not look on a USB flash drive for the save, because the pmedia=cd in the boot loader menu entry.
It will only search for save on the CD or a hard drive.
The live CD boot process needs to be fixed to also look on USB flash drives for a save.

Billtoo, Is there a new iso? Please share it here..Billtoo wrote:I did a new install to a 64gb sandisk flash drive:

@ recobayu:-
I don't think you'll find there's a new release.
Billtoo is one of the forum's 'hardware testers'. During the lifetime of any given ISO, he will re-install the same ISO on a large range of different hardware combinations, and post the results. This is to demonstrate to all, forum members and guests alike, the range of equipment Puppy will run on.

This does indicate he is using a different Linux kernel, from the kernel 4.4.95 that is in the official version of Xenialpup 7.5Billtoo wrote:I did a new install to a 64gb sandisk flash drive:

He probably changed the kernel.
Looks like he is using a PAE kernel.
Change kernel
That can be done in Quickpet>Info>change kernel.
However, changing the kernel is not something you really need to do, unless something in the kernel is only available in a newer kernel and you need it.
Example:
The official Xenialpup 4.4.95 kernel does not have PAE enabled (to be able to see more than 4 GB of ram).
But it can work on a lot more older processors.
So to get PAE support you need to change to a kernel that has PAE enabled.
But you also need a processor that has PAE support.
If the processor does not support PAE, a PAE enabled kernel will not work on it.

This thread seemed to be just about dead so I decided to show that the 32bit xenialpup is still useable.
The slacko rc3 threads aren't exactly lively either.

Billtoo,
I think I posted about the same time you did.
You do seem to be using a different kernel from what comes in the official Xenialpup 7.5.

Yes, I made a (maybe feeble) effort at compiling the latest kernel with the woof-cd kernel kit.bigpup wrote:Billtoo,

Seems to work fine, I'm willing to gamble with it but won't post it for others in case it's no good.

work properly so am using tas.

I did a new install this morning, opened quickpet and installed the
xenialpup updates.
Palemoon update has been fixed in the latest update.

The version of Xenial I am running is xenialpup-7.5-uefi. When I boot this up for the first time in a completely unmodified state (either from the ISO on a USB device, or from a Frugal Install) with no Save File, here's what happens:bigpup wrote:What are you doing when this happens?
1. The Desktop opens displaying the default Quicksetup window. So I click OK to close that...
2. The Welcome window then appears, so I close that as well...
3. After a moment a new Quickpet icon appears on the Desktop.
Now, I can stop this from happening by creating a Save File and rebooting. I no longer get a new Quickpet icon every time from this point on, because the icon layout from the previous session is remembered and re-applied. But if I Remaster, and run the remastered version without a Save File, I am right back where I started: I automatically get a new Quickpet icon every time. And because, having remastered, I already have a Quickpet icon, I just end up with two - sometimes with one right over the top of the other.
I tried disabling /usr/sbin/quicksetup and /usr/sbin/welcome1stboot just to see what happened. I thought action of closing the Welcome window might have been what applied the icon, but it made no difference.
I notice that there are a couple of Forum threads dealing with the issue of a missing Quickpet icon in Tahrpup (Here and Here). These mention a bugfix that automatically applies a new Quickpet icon. Perhaps Xenial has inherited this from Tahrpup (just guessing).
The bottom line here is that I would like to be able to run a remastered version of Xenial (with my own embedded customizations) and no Save file, without a new Quickpet icon appearing every time I boot up.
Any ideas?
