During my testing of a javascript number-cruncher program, I found that
google-chrome browser executes 12 times slower than waterfox on xenialpup64 version 7.5. On fatdog 721 Chrome is only 30% slower. The Chrome
version is 09052018 generated by fatdog which is version 69.0.3497.81
So what is it about xenial64 7.5? Something missing that I can get via
the ppm? I don't have a clue Or maybe it's something about the kernel
(I use the default kernel). I haven't tried changing the kernel (yet).

I loaded Xenialpup64 onto a USB thumb drive, and live booted into a new Acer Chromebook R11 (CYAN, Intel Braswell).
The boot went fine, but keyboard, touchpad, and touchscreen were non-functional.
After some searching I found these are elantech type (elan)
I did try the chromebook w/Xenialpup with a wireless mouse and the onboard florence virtual keyboard and everything I tried worked well so far.
I would really like to have this going permanently with puppy and functioning input devices.
In the mean time, I've loaded the Chromebook with GalliumOS 3.0 alpha -- built on Xubuntu, and all functions work. It is designed specifically for Chromebooks. Mine is the Intel Braswell flavor. But I'm spoiled by puppy for the last ten years -- never was happy with Ubuntu.
Just curious, since it seems to have the right drivers and modules can the kernel from from GalliumOS 3.0 be swapped into Xenialpup64, or is that just foolish wishful thinking?

I found another site and ran the test, don't really know if the reasult is good or bad but I guess you could test your Google Chrome there.

I loaded the Google Chrome sfs by Mike Walsh and ran the test, it got a better score than Palemoon 28.01

The problem is Drivers
Hi vtpup,
In order for a Kernel (vmlinuz) to interface with peripherals (even those built into a laptop) such as keyboards, mice, touchpad, touchscreen, sound, and graphic cards, there must be both firmware and drivers. Firmware is ubiquitous -- can be used on any system. But drivers have to be compiled against the specific kernel of the operating system. (Or, I think, nearly so: the driver compiled against, say, Kernel 4.9.107 may be satisfactory under Kernel 4.9.100 thru 110; but not Kernel 4.8.anything).
Do you know what kernel GalliumOS 3.0 alpha uses? Has anyone packaged Hugh-Kernel with that number for Puppy? Hugh-Kernels are packaged with both the Kernel (vmlinuz) and drivers (but perhaps not the driver your Chromebook needs). It is relatively easy to swap a Puppy's Kernel. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 33#1004533. Of course, you'd do that running a functioning Puppy, then try the product --vmlinuz, zdrv.sfs together with the original initrd, and Puppy_xenialpup65.sfs-- on your Chromebook.
Beyond that, I can only advise you to plug Chromebook into this search cite, https://cse.google.com/cse?cx=015995643 ... #gsc.tab=0 and see if anyone has run any (preferrably recent) Puppy on a Chromebook.

That's why the extreme slowness on xenialpup64 seems to point to
some issue with xenialpup64 .... which is very puzzling. Also, chrome's
siblings like opera browser are also slow as mollases running my script
on xenialpup64.

not knowing what's causing the extreme slowness of chrome running my
script on xenialpup64.

Thanks for the search reference -- I've seen most of those threads already, though one by Bigpup asks about the very same thing I'm looking for -- I think I'll contribute what I know and can find to that thread.
As far as other puppy Chromebook threads go -- they are mostly pretty old (4yrs) and apply mostly to only the Acer C720 of that period.
To answer your other questions, from what I can find the kernel used by GalliumOS 3.0 alpha for this Acer r11 Chromebook is 4.15.18-galliumos 0+dev2
I may give the kernel swapping idea a go if I can find that kernel..... or do I have it already in the 3.0 alpha ISO?

I was forced to move to a newer pc - HP Elitebook 2570p - saying goodbye to my old Athlon 64 which has been serving me for more than 10 years running Puppy 412.
Installed Xenialpup64 CE 7.5 frugal and everything just works: mail, browser, multimedia, archiving, package manager and so on.

In the right bottom side , there are many icons : volume, network, firewall etc.
But it's very annoying for 2 icons, when right clicking with the mouse on them, it doesn't keep their menu up :
- firewall icon
- network icon
Is it possible to change this right click behavior for both icons ?

Right click on icon.
Menu pops up and stays until I select something or click the mouse button.
Do have to make sure you only do one right click.
The mouse pointer is usually over the quit in the menu.
I have accidentally clicked it.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Sometimes old mice switch contacts become a bit "dirty", and releasing the button can actually register as a second "click" (especially in JWM, which has far too short of a mouse click event delay IMHO - possibly tweakable in a setting somewhere?).

Can you try this : install xenialpup64, update it. And short right click each icon situated in the right bottom side, and tell us how they behave. Short right click.
