Onionshare do not start
Onionshare do not start
Hello everyone.
My OS is Xeniapup 7.5 64.
I also installed Tor browser 8.0.3 with Ffx 60.3 Oesr.
The installation of Onionshare via ppm - relise 0.8.1-1 from Ubuntu-xenial-multiverse repository - seems to have gone well...
In fact, it finds the Onionshare icon in the Network section.
However, when I click on it, the application does not start and no message appears.
Does anyone have any suggestions about this?
Thanks
Sonia

In /usr/share/applications the .desktop file of onionshare should be located. So, probably /usr/share/applications/onionshare.desktop. If you found it, open it in a text editor to edit.
Have a look at the Exec= entry and -if necessary- just change it to onionshare so, Exec=onionshare (or something similar that way) and save the file back.
Refresh the menu or type fixmenus into the terminal.
Should work from menu now as well...

Now I use Bionicpup64 and OnionShare 0.9.2-1 from PPM.ITSMERSH wrote:In /usr/share/applications the .desktop file of onionshare should be located. So, probably /usr/share/applications/onionshare.desktop. If you found it, open it in a text editor to edit.

I tried to open it (onionshare.desktop) as text to modify Exec; but it doesn't open as text, so I can't edit it; while other applications such as 'notecase.desktop' or ' mtpaint.desktop 'also cannot be opened as text; however they can be launched.
In conclusion Onionshare works well from the terminal; but I can't start it from Menu.
Also I can't update it to release 2.2 since when I boot
from terminal the procedure to install it: 'sudo add-apt-repository ppa: micahflee / ppa' as indicated in Onionshare.org installation, it signals the following error to which I cannot overcome:
I already had openssl installed

You can't rt-clk and "open as text?" Really?
Grab what you need manually >> https://launchpad.net/~micahflee/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
sudo add-apt-repository is Ubu, NOT Pup.[Desktop Entry]
Name=OnionShare
Comment=Share a file securely and anonymously over Tor
Exec=/usr/bin/onionshare-gui
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/onionshare80.xpm

now I try to understand how to do it manually.
I understood that Puppy is not Ubuntu; however I didn't know how to update it and I also tried it.
thanks

No?
I wonder if one of OnionShare's deps, namely "mime-support" overwrote any of Bionics default mime_type files?/etc/mime.types
/usr/lib/mime/packages/mime-support
/usr/sbin/update-mime
