I put fatdog 800 /etc/drirc file in Easy and that was the solution.

I attach the file for anyone else with old intel graphics chip 950
(fake gz extension)
Thanks very much for that info. Yes, jamesbond posted about it here:

/etc/drirc will be in the next release.

Hi Barry,

I installed EasyOS Pyro 0.9.14 and all seems good. I am just hoping the updating works from now on, as I was really reluctant to install .14 since I had modded .10 so much.

I have one question: I update both firefox and chromium sfses you have provided for us. Here's how I do it:

1) Use the great SFSGet to download either of them.
2) Let SFSGet set them up, in a new Container
3) Make sure they are working, then restart
4) Upon starting back up, I download both the latest version of Firefox and Chromium I can find (from their websites)
5) I then go into /mnt/sda#/sfs/easyos/oe/pyro/ or /mnt/wkg/sfs/esyos/oe/pyro/ and I unsquashfs both of the SFSGet downloaded browser files.
6)I then replace their contents with the updated browsers I downloaded.
7) I then resquashfs the files back together...
8) and, after that, all is good, both browsers start up in Containers as normal and I running the latest versions of those browsers.

My question is this:

What is the proper way to do this? For example, I cannot change the name on the sfs file or inside their.spec files (to match), without everything breaking & thus nothing will start.
Is there a proper way to update the browsers & such? Or, rather, what is exactly the best/proper way to update any of the SFSes we want to update?

Or should I stick to the "hack" way I am doing it??? :) I don't mind the names on the SFS files being wrong, still, if there is an easy way to make everything look proper, would maybe like to do that.

Thanks!!

That's great!
Is it possible to put it into a tarball?
I could make it into a PET or SFS.

I attempted to compile the nvidia driver, but it said that no nvidia graphics detected (I have intel video) so it aborted.

Would your compile work for a wide range of nvidia cards?

I don't have a clue how to make it into an SFS or PET, it would be a great addition to easyos I think.

I wonder if "get nvidia" by shinobar could be used for many different nvidia cards.

James Bond wrote the instructions for making a 64 bit nvidia driver (pet or SFS)
It's for fatdog linux however the method is generalized and might work in other linux distros.
http://lightofdawn.org/wiki/wiki.cgi/Cr ... aDriverSFS
This article assumes you're running Fatdog64, but it would also work (with some changes) for 64-bit Puppy Linux too. The variations are also given.

,
I installed the new Firefox with sfsget, works great on my dual core lenovo.

Thanks
-----------------------
.
EDIT: After installing the new Firefox SFS the previously installed xenialpup sfs would just flash on the screen and disappear when I tried to start it.

I went to Easy Container Management and deleted the xenialpup and kodi sfs's, then re-installed them.
They are working again now.

I must have a decent solitaire card game so need the xenialpup sfs :)

Thanks

Also:
New Firefox sfs still working great.

Downloaded 0.9.14 iso, opened that and frugal installed to HDD (grub4dos). Clicked initrd and used the yes option to auto-adjust its content ... booted, ran through first setup settings in the main session. Rebooted, opened easy container and ran localisation within that - so that UK keyboard worked.

After reboot, easy container had lost its UK keyboard settings despite country showing the correct location/settings.

Other than that, sound, browser etc. all seem good within the easy container (responsive, no clipping etc.).

Easy container, LibreOffice spreadsheet is very responsive at opening - as usual, except when loading a existing spreadsheet. Took around 20 seconds to load a relatively small single sheet spreadsheet from /shared. Initially opened read only and I saved a new copy, closed and then reopened that ... and again quite a long wait for it to load.

Rebooted and tried again ... same. If loaded within the main session then opens the spreadsheet OK (quickly).

EDIT : restored 1st snapshots for both easy container and main system and spreadsheet loading as expected/OK.

Also ran from command line ... OK

Code: Select all

# scalc SWR-CENTURY-of-Talmud.ods
Xlib: extension "XINERAMA" missing on display ":1".
#
... prior slow loading run might be down to having listened to 1 hour+ of music before having started libre calc (cache/swap) ???

Noticed that for the last couple/few releases that on shutdown I'm seeing a ModemManager [1573] <warn> Could not acquire ... type message. Doesn't seem to affect anything, just flashes up (console) for a couple of seconds (followed by a ModemManager [1573] <info> ModemManager is shutting down .... type message.

I did a fresh install to a 32gb flash drive, added firefox,kodi,and
xenialpup containers in that order.
Screeny is working okay with the nouveau driver.

Works well so far.
Thanks.

EDIT: I also installed the chromium 71 sfs which is working well.

If you're using xorg rather than xephyr configuration for containers then be mindful xorg isn't secure (containering is only marginally more secure than not having containered at all).

As an update to a previous post:

I moved my Compaq-Presario and it's now connected to a 32" TV, sound
via hdmi.
Also, with the nouveau driver there was a high pitched whine all the
time, the proprietary Nvidia driver fixed that.
I think the support for LTS Ubuntu versions has been upped to 10 years
so hopefully I can use this for a long while :)

Sorry, Billtoo, I can' resist this: but given someone's previous post worried about safety and security and such: it must be true, you are a certified rebel, living so wild, so crazy, so out-on-the-edge ridiculous carefree, and it is all described by these two words: Compaq and Presario! Time-traveler you are!! Oh, btw, I finally got mine going with the bluetooth sound (thanks!)......the darn thing is actually now beckoning me to use it more again

Are there More USB IMAGE TOOL ready Puppies?

#1220 Post by bankwtf »

Barry, you have made the install process quite easy. I followed instructions yesterday and EasyOS Pyro 0.9.14 installed nicely on...

HP EliteBook 8570p 8 gb ram 240 ssd windows 7 pro quad core i73620QM

My only prob was the Touchpad -- tapping not established, can only utilize left button press and window dragging/resizing. So my main question would be are there some other Puppy's doing this USB Image Tool thing? I was a bit puzzled upon reboot, would keep going to its usual Grub setup; however, I turned OFF PC and Restarting did the trick, went right to my Verbatim 4GB stick.
