abiword not working after upgrade from 2.11 to 2.14

#1 Post by oomisilekootsi »

Upon upgrading to 2.14 from 2.11(frugal-installed), abiword doesn't work anymore. Other applications worked... exept for this.

please type
abiword
in a consolewindow, and copy&paste the errors you get here.

you might try to extract this one, and copy the files as required.

http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/di ... -2.4.5.pet
also
http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/di ... -2.4.5.pet

Rename to .tar.gz to extract.
I don't remember to what folder abiword installed in 2.11.
In 2.10 it was /usr/local, while in 2.12 it was /usr
So you might remove old files first to avoid conflicts.

you might delete
/usr/local/share/AbiSuite-2.4
if that exists.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I will download them later as I only have a dialup connection. I tried downloading the abiword suite from your dotpups site yesterday. It was unreachable. I hope things are going ok with your domain transfer.
BTW, you said I should rename the *.pet file to .tar.gz. But puppy 2.14 has a .pet already.

dotpups.de:

It still is being connected :?

Pet:
I don't know if Petget refuses to install pets of programs that are already part of puppy.
So my suggestion to rename them, so you can extract with pupzip and then copy by hand.
This should trick out petget.

I am getting cryptic symbols whenever I click on the link you gave me. Seamonkey seems to be opening the file instead of downloading it.

this is exactly why i chose to use zip instead of gz for dotpups ... dotpup files were intended to be downloaded from servers by clicking on them, and many many servers are misconfigured and treat gz files as text files, and therefore display them as text

most servers will work properly with zip files

pupget/petget evolved from the Unleashed iso building system ... it was not originally intended to work as a "click to download, click to install" package system, and so it does not work well that way, and never will

what you need to do is to right click the file, and select in the menu something like Save Link As ...

just left clicking the dotpet file will simply display it as text

Thanks for the help. Abiword is working now. After deleting the traces of Abiword from the 2.11 install, I tried the dotPET package manager first. It worked.
