FreeBSD's devil mascot - 'daemon' or 'demon'? <lol>

#1 Post by Mike Walsh »

Evening, all.

Just for a giggle, you might find this discussion thread on the 'Christian Forums' (seriously!) to be worthy of a laugh or two. The OP was finding 'sinister symbolism' in FreeBSD's 'cute' little devil logo, according to many of the respondents.....

https://www.christianforums.com/threads ... e.7682316/

(Don't get the wrong idea. I just followed the link, out of curiosity.....and ended up pissing myself laughing!)

Anybody have any thoughts, one way or the other? :D

Hi Mike_Walsh.

Indeed a roar!

As for me, this one got me: :)
> I'm assuming it isn't a matter of doctrine that the fruit from the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil was actually an apple, right?

(from this LOAMMI person on that forum)
Well, it's written, but it couldn't be, because AFAIK, apple trees cannot grow in such
southern countries as Palestine. Also, after you've eaten an apple, you'll notice that you
have no better understanding of what's good and what's evil.
(Where has Flash hidden that tongue-in-cheek icon again?)

I love these outrageous religious discussions (probably for the very wrong reasons!), and my simple question has always been: Did Adam and Eve have a navel?

I would like to point out that issues like the BSD icon would bother some people. In fact, in my area, there are some people who don't buy Monster energy drinks because (a) the logo apparently looks like the Hebrew symbols for 666 and (b) on the back, the can reads "Unleash the Beast". I personally don't have a problem with either Monster or BSD, but there are people who whose consciences would bug them about that.
