EasyOS version 2.3.2, June 22, 2020
Good day!
There is one thing, that is very important for me - proper font rendering. It is because there are a lot of explanation pages in EasyOS, and I have to read a lot of text. And my eyes got tired...
The problem is, that RGBA font rendering does not working properly in almost all apps, except urxvt and Chromium.
Here are my font rendering settings.
And here is the result.
As you can see the same font has been rendered differently! In urxvt the RGBA rendering is working properly. The font is smooth and pleasant to eyes, just like in Linux Mint 18. But in Sakura, looks like the RGBA rendering does not working as it should be. Font looks blurry (look at t letter for example), and while reading this font, my eyes got tired... The difference is visible the best, if you look at letters t, r and q.
3. Is it possible to make, that all applications fonts would have proper RGBA rendering, just like in urxvt?
And some new problems, not so important, but still worth to mention.
1. When I launch Input Devices settings, this window always pops out, which is annoying.
2. PET Package Manager sometimes completely freezes and stops responding. In such cases I can not do anything on desktop except hard restart.
3. Please, do not forget about my previous post.

Continuing with writing documentation, now a how-to on translating EasyOS to any language:

There were some earlier posts discussing the merits of booting Easy from a USB-stick versus an ISO. The ability to bootup on different PCs was seen as an advantage for the ISO.
There are some things that you might setup for particular hardware, such as run the XorgWizard, or the Multiple Sound Card Wizard. These make changes, for example /etc/X11/xorg.conf, that may be wrong if the USB-stick is booted on a different PC.
However, Easy has "hardware profiling" for Xorg, that automatically takes care of this situation. So for Xorg anyway, you can merrily bootup on any number of different PCs.
This hardware profiling for Xorg needed some fixing for /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d, see blog post:
https://bkhome.org/news/202001/improved ... -xorg.html
...see my comment about Puppy.
EDIT:
I posted to this woof-CE thread:

G'day All, I've taken EasyOS 2.2.3 for a Spin, Boots & Runs Fine from the USB Flasher Drive az it's Designed for However I'm having Trouble Setting Up WiFi w/ the Newer Network Manager & Using the Classic interNet Connection Wizard it can't find any Wireless Chip ( which does Work w/ Windows 10 ), @ the moment it's Connecting via Eth0. Any Help w/ this would be Appreciated.
Also I've attempted a Dual Boot Frugal install w/ Windows 10 in the Root of sda2, But Grub4Dos Bootloader config wRote the menu.lst File 2 sda1, so I just get ERROR: Boot partition not found, after finding drives...
Have now dropped into a shell in the initramfs, etc
Here's the Suspect eXcerpt

I have made a start on hard-profiling for sound:
https://bkhome.org/news/202001/hardware ... audio.html
Does anyone have a PC with two sound cards? If so, would you mind doing that little test that I posted about on the blog?
If lspci does not list the cards in same order as 'aplay -l', then I will have to figure it out differently.

Barry, unless one is running the PC as a professional DAW, it is extremely rare that one has more than one PCI soundcard. The most common reason for having multiple soundcard is with USB audio dongle, and that cannot be captured with lspci.

That's very interesting, thanks for reporting that.
ndujoe1, ould you mind running the following and post the output here?:
Code: Select all
# aplay -l | grep '^card '
Oh yes, this as well please:
Code: Select all
# lspci -d ::0403

Which raises the question how to detect the type of usb audio device. 'lsusb' maybe, but as far as I know, there would have to be a search for a suitable text string. For example, here is result on my laptop:jamesbond wrote:Barry, unless one is running the PC as a professional DAW, it is extremely rare that one has more than one PCI soundcard. Easy 2.2.3 has the 'usb-devices' utility, that provides a lot more information.
I have ordered one of these:

Would you mind running them exactly like this:
Because this is how they are currently run in my script, and I need to see exactly what output you get. Thanks for your patience!

I think you can create software cards in /etc/asound.conf
which can change the card numbers.
I don't know whether that could change the order of the "hardware" cards.
EasyOS Pyro 1.3, Buster 2.2,3 December 27, 2019
I have easy 2.2.3 installed on my HP desktop, I did that a couple of days
ago, there were 2 bluetooth icons in the panel.
I added an amd radeon card some time ago (years), original was intel graphics.
Today I chose the "exit to command line" menu option and then ran xorgwizard,
chose the proper resolution, and the radeon driver, exited and did "xwin jwm" to
get back to the desktop.
I never notice any change until this current session a few hours later but
there is only 1 bluetooth icon showing in the panel now.
Computer
Processor 2x Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz
Memory 4039MB (276MB used)
Machine Type Physical machine
Operating System
OpenGL
Vendor X.Org
Renderer AMD OLAND (DRM 2.50.0, 5.4.10, LLVM 7.0.1)
Version 4.5 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 18.3.6
Direct Rendering Y_es
Edit:
I disabled the amd card in the bios, unplugged the hdmi cable, connected the
vga cable to the built in graphics port and rebooted, 2 bluetooth icons showing.
I exited to the prompt and ran xorgwizard, it displayed a message saying
"you have 2 graphics cards, which one do you want to use",chose intel and it
tested ok, did "xwin jwm" back to the desktop, only 1 bluetooth icon again.
OpenGL
Vendor Intel Open Source Technology Center
Renderer Mesa DRI Intel(R) G33
Version 2.1 Mesa 18.3.6
Direct Rendering Y_es
Edit:
Next time I booted I had to run xorgwizard again to get intel so I shut down and removed the amd card from the computer.
Plugged the drive into another computer and did a new install.
Back in the older HP and have setup bluetooth again, screenshot shows it's back to 2 bluetooth icons in the panel again!
Egad, I also dual boot the latest Mint and PClinuxOS on this HP and bluetooth works okay on those.

My 2.2.3 installation on my Dell Laptop with i3-5200U had 2 bluetooth icons, then yesterday it had 1 for a while, then after a reboot it had 2 again.Billtoo wrote: I never notice any change until this current session a few hours later but

On the next release I will do a new easydd install rather than manual upgrade, to not carry over any issues which may effect functionality.
You can. But you can't do it with /etc/asound.conf. You need to do it with /etc/modprobe.conf because the order is set at module-load time (i.e, at boot time).williams2 wrote:I think you can create software cards in /etc/asound.conf

I don't know whether that could change the order of the "hardware" cards.
Here is mine:
Code: Select all
# lspci -d ::0403
04:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Device 15de
04:00.6 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Device 15e3
# aplay -l | grep '^card '
card 0: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 0: ALC255 Analog [ALC255 Analog]
card 1: HDMI [HD-Audio Generic], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
To swap it, this is what I use in /etc/modprobe.conf.d/swap-card.conf:
Code: Select all
options snd-hda-intel id=HDMI index=1

Ah yes, NVIDIA. Is it a PCI card? I am wondering about the NVIDIA audio, how does that work? -- I mean, is there 3.5mm audio socket on the NVIDIA card, or is the audio intended to go to speakers on the monitor?ndujoe1 wrote:here is the output per your instructions:

Don't worry about it, I know why those two icons got launched, and it is fixed.Terry H wrote:My 2.2.3 installation on my Dell Laptop with i3-5200U had 2 bluetooth icons, then yesterday it had 1 for a while, then after a reboot it had 2 again.Billtoo wrote: I never notice any change until this current session a few hours later but
