CPU Voltage - request

#1 Post by Bassking »

I'm looking for a program to control my cpu voltage for saving battery life.
There is "powernowd" but i cant install it. Maybe someone could make me a dotpup or tell me another program.

Thank you

I think you mean frequency not voltage, try this

hm, i can not download the file for puppy 2.12, link is broken. i figured out to set the maximun frequency to a lower case (i can only choose between 800 and 1600 mhz) but theres not automatic control, so i guess i need the file.

Let google do the searching for you
http://www.google.com/search?q=all-modu ... 202.tar.gz

If you can't find it at any of those links posting to that thread and asking pakt for the dotpup makes most sense to me.

Or upgrade to 2.13, 2.14 or 2.15ce as they all have the modules included in their zdrv file.

Those Google links refer all to the same dead link ;). I´d already searched for it. So PLZ Mr. Pakt, do a dotpup for me :)

In my experience CPU voltage can normally only be adjusted in bios on later type mobo's
Though as has been pointed out above Frequency can be changed by tweak apps/script
Try going into bios setup when you first boot and look down the various listings for CPU settings
Be careful altering the voltage by much, as it may cause your lappy to freeze, but 10% should be a safe reduction
Save , exit & reboot
If you don't have the facility to alter voltage in bios, you are stuck with frequency change only, this can give considerable power saving and even 40% frequency drop will not freeze your system - merely slow it!
Also check that you have acpi enabled
Good luck

So now, my CPU is always an 800 Mhz (instead of 1600), thats one step foward.
I need this file to use coolnquiet because i still want to use muppylinux, its cool. if anyone could tell me another puppyversion with xfce or maybe kde which works good, and is based on 2.13 oder 2.14 plz tell me. but the easiest way would be the file.

A newer puppy might be a good idea but my first guess is that you are trying to load the wrong processor module.

Do
cat /proc/cpuinfo
or menu - system - xproc processor tab to check your processor type and then try the appropriate module.

Which module causes the error?

Have you read the page I link to here?
