Linphone-1.3.5.pet refuses to start (Solved)

#1 Post by jaguarrh »

hi again,

i'm tryin to get a sip compatible voip softphone working on my old lappy.

i am using the current puppy (214) and have tried to run 'gizmo-project.pup' that i found on these forums. i got 'gizmo' to run but i think it may have chewed up a bit too much of my cpu. it was basically unusable as it made everything slow down to an almost stop.

now i'm not sure if linphone would be any less resource intensive, but i was going to give it a try. i installed it and all of its dependencies (i double checked the dependencies) with petget, however when i click on the menu entry it created in the 'internet' menu, it doesn't run.

i also tried starting it using the exe /usr/bin/linphonec with the same result.

i checked the output of 'top' after both of the above attempts to start linphone, just incase it was hiding in the backgrond, but i saw nothing that looked like linphone in the 'top' output.

am i missing something?

Hi, I can't help you with your questions as I am pretty much a novice but I did get both SJphone and X-lite 2.0 working on my laptop in Puppy 2.14.

X-lite is easy. Just uncompress into its own folder, say in /root/my-applications/ and either run it from there or create a menu item.

I find the sound quality poor compared to the Windows version of X-lite 3.0 and Windows SJphone though. Sounds like a pillow over the speakers.

If someone can suggest a better alternative or how to fix the sound, I would appreciate it.

Does Gizmo work as a Sip softphone that can be used with a Sip proxy?

Thanks

The Linphone PET package at ibiblio is commandline only, and maybe it needs some parameters. I have no experience whatsoever how to use it. Perhaps you are the first person to actually try it...

Hmm, yes, that menu entry is wrong. That is only valid if compiled with the graphical version of Linphone, which wasn't done due to excessive dependencies.

Sound

#5 Post by Skipper »

I am not having sound with linphonec.

This is my config file:

Code: Select all

[net]
con_type=3
use_nat=0

[sip]
sip_port=5060
guess_hostname=1
contact=sip:xxxxxxxx@ekiga.net
inc_timeout=15
use_info=0
use_ipv6=0
default_proxy=-1

[rtp]
audio_rtp_port=7078
video_rtp_port=9078
audio_jitt_comp=60
video_jitt_comp=60

[sound]
playback_dev_id=1
ringer_dev_id=1
capture_dev_id=1
rec_lev=80
play_lev=80
ring_lev=80
source=m
local_ring=/usr/share/sounds/linphone/rings/orig.wav
remote_ring=/usr/share/sounds/linphone/ringback.wav

[video]
enabled=1
show_local=0

[audio_codec_0]
mime=PCMU
rate=8000
enabled=1

[audio_codec_1]
mime=GSM
rate=8000
enabled=1

[audio_codec_2]
mime=PCMA
rate=8000
enabled=1

[audio_codec_3]
mime=speex
rate=8000
enabled=1

[audio_codec_4]
mime=speex
rate=16000
enabled=1

[audio_codec_5]
mime=1015
rate=8000
enabled=1
It makes connection, calls, sends information by the net, but doesn't receive. No sounds. I don't tried to be called. Have experience anyone about this software in Puppy?

EDITED: I might say now that this soundcard is problematic.

A few enhancements:

* libgnome/libgnomeui is no more needed, the graphical interface is now pure GTK+
* better reliability of video first I frame or theora packed conf exchange
* bugfix about audio codec bitrates

I'll see about the new version, it should be much easier without the GNOME deps.
