SO this computer I want to set up for my daughter has only USB ports and no Ethernet. No way to put one in, either.
Do y'all think if I bought a USB to Ethernet network adapter could be made to work? Otherwise maybe a USB wireless network adapter?

No sweat if going that route. I use 2 main diff ones (for almost all my pups) that work great on every usb 'pute i've tried so far using wep 64 hex (ranged from 2.12 to 7 on ~ 10 'putes & forget how many setups ).happy cricket wrote: Otherwise maybe a USB wireless network adapter?

It's a Gateway Astro that I gor for free (with the following specs, although I changed the hard drive out for a 10GB). It has no slots for adding any cards. It does have four USB ports though.
Gateway Astro
PC WorldBench 2000 score of 92, Celeron-400, 64MB of SDRAM, 128KB L2 cache, 4.3GB hard drive, all-in-one, 15-inch monitor, Windows 98 SE, integrated Intel 810 graphics with UMA and 4MB of 3D cache, 17X-40X CD-ROM drive, V.90 modem.

My Compex U202B USB-Ethernet adapter has worked well with Puppy since 2.01 using ndiswrapper and the provided Windows driver.
The Compex has VID:PID of 0bda:8150, which it shares with a number of other similar adapters, e.g. from Billionton, Linksys and 3Com. The chipset is Realtek rtl8150. There is source for a Linux 2.6 driver available but I have not attempted to compile it.
One of those adapters should be fine if you don't have an objection to using ndiswrapper.
edit: Hmm! should have checked some more before posting. Puppy 2.16 has the rtl8150 module, and this is being posted via the USB-Ethernet adapter. Took a little extra fiddling to get it working because it is not listed in the network modules list when setting up a connection. But...it works as you can see.
