My background in computing included teaching computer-illiterate draughtsmen how to transfer their skills to CAD, which (of course) had to evaluate how much they needed to learn about computer operating (not geek stuff) and how quickly (like can it be crammed into 5 minutes flat).
My perspective, like yours, is essentially totally at odds with the average developer lol
