Skype dotpet doesn't work in Puppy 3?

#1 Post by keithcleaver »

I've tried to download Skype using the Install program, and Puppy tells me this:
The skype-1.1.0.20 package has been downloaded to /root/.packages,
however there is not enough room to uncompress and install it.
The free space is 25192 blocks but it is estimated you will
need 37299 blocks temporarily for the expansion and install.

Note: If you are using a pup_save.3fs personal storage file,
it can be made bigger -- see Utilities menu.

Click OK button to continue...
I thought that Puppy 3 used the pup_save file first rather than the RAM.

I have 998M left in my pup_save file, but it's a 2fs file.

Help?

Keith, I don't know what's going worng for you. All I can say is, I've had very good results in Puppy 3.00 installing the static download from the Skype website. If I can do it it must be very simple.
  • 1. When Pupzip offered to open the zip file I said yes and to put it in /root/my-applications, but I suppose you can put it anywhere you like.
    2. Find the Skype folder, open it, look for the gear icon, drag it onto the desktop.
    3. Open the icons folder inside the Skype folder, right-click on the gear icon on the desktop, choose "Set Icon," and drag a Skype icon from the icon folder into the box.
    4. Skype should open when you click the Skype icon on the desktop.
If you get into trouble give us a holler.

What the problem was that I could hear the voice at the other end, but I couldn't be heard.

It was a simple case of turning the mic and the input gain levels up to maximum!

I haven't found a way to adjust the microphone in Skype. You get whatever the Skype developers thought you ought to get, I guess. It does seem to automatically adjust, sometimes.

There is a forum on the Skype website. You might try looking there.

Microphone volume

I did have some problems with puppy 2.15 in that it always turned the microphone volume down to zero at reboot...

I remember used a "setvol" command in a startup script to solve the problem in ecopup

Hi all,

My problem is with fonts in the new skype1.4.0.118.pet while using 3.01.

The static version from Skype.com(the one that needs qt) is not as pretty but the fonts were much larger.

So far I can't find a way to change fonts inside the .pet.

Any ideas?
