Hello edoc,
Thanks for the info about problem links etc.

Try downloading TEENpup 2.14 from Here and let me know how you go.

http://pkagfiles.net/.isos-fM9/TEENpup/

As for a mailing list, I don't know if I could do it.

I agree sometimes you find important things on the forum by accident.

My best advice I can give is read the forum daily if possible.
Download any new Apps and save them some where for possible later use as you don't know if you'll be able to find them again in the future or the link has gone dead.

O.K as for tuxType, I haven't tried to get that App working.
In testing I had TuxPaint, gcompris working in TEENpup.
As they are big Apps, I didn't include them as they are aimed at preschool children not teenagers.

As you might not have seen that MU has made packages to install gcompris if you haven't tried it, I recommend you do as it has alot of good stuff in it for little children (I have a 3 year old who plays with it all the time) I there's a typing app in it.

See forum link http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=8072

Any chance any app in TeenPup 2.00 can handle this site?

Will do and will report back.

It would only be an Address Book folder with the names of TeenPup users who
requested a heads-up when you post an upgrade. It is an elegantly simple way
to keep current and prospective users informed. Checking Forums regularly can
get lost in the clutter of family and work and other tasks of daily living. ;-\

I miscommunicated as I didn't say that the "children" to whom I referred are 10 & 12.
They really need to learn to type, as I imagine is true of most teenagers. I thought I
had just missed the typing app somehow. :-)

I guess once I get TeenPup 2.14 working I can try to load Linux typing apps until one
works - or come back here and beg for help!

if you want to get kids to type include a chatbot....

alicebot runs fine in a window in wine
www.alicebot.org (the winalice version --fullscreen crashes windowed is ok)

eliza (a perl script i thing is not very good)
maybe a better version somwhere
rebbeca is a c++ chatbot that depends on boost libraries (I tried to compile them but it never finished maybe you could try your hand at it)

http://rebecca-aiml.sourceforge.net/index.htm

it seems that rebecca is really a backend therefore a bash/gnocl or murgalua script seems apropriate the current demo gui seems to use qt

We need them to do more than type - I can type but only with a few fingers and I have to
look at the keyboard.

We need them to learn to type correctly - all 10 fingers and without looking at the
keyboard.

Where I went to HS some academic genius decided that only the non college-track
students needed to learn to type ... since I was college-bound I didn't learn. Sigh.

TuxType is one of several typing tutor apps for Linux. I need to get one of them
working.

BTW: At 10 and 12yrs old one thing I don't need them doing is chatting with who knows
who about who knows what on the internet. Way too many bad influences and
predators out there.

The ISO has been downloaded -- took "forever". :-)

Need to get some sleep so will check the download for accuracy then run the upgrade
in the morning.

Will report back ...

Hello edoc,
It took me 24 hours to upload TEENpup 2.14 to servage on broadband, so I know what your feeling.

Now I've been thinking about you typing app and by what I can make out you want an App to teach your children to type.
If this is the case, here's the beauty of TEENpup2.0.0 and TEENpup 2.14
As both run a KDE base (version 3.5.4) all you need to do is download from debian the KDE Education package which contains about 15 Apps from periodic tables to a typing teaching app.
After downloading the package using the "Console" convert it with undeb/unrpm which is already in TEENpup and paste all the required files in their correct folders.
Find the App you've just pasted in /usr/bin and again in "Console" type ./name of app you want to open and see if it starts or tells you a dependency is missing.
Most of the time if there is a dependency missing say for example libedoc.so.1 either do a search for libedoc or look in /usr/lib or /opt/kde/lib and see if there's something like libedoc.so.0.0.0 if there is create a link and rename it to libedoc.so.1 and in Console try again with ./name of app you want to open and see what happens.
I know this works as I have a laptop running with these apps and it took only about 20 minutes to get 13 of the 15 working.
Any problems let me know

whoa never said anything about kid chatting on the net that is part of the point they are not on the net they are chatting to the computer offline to well mannered AI not that the kids wil be well mannered could make it so the chatbot exits if you aren't "nice". You could add all kinds of trivia stuff to the chatbot to make it educational maybe I will have a better experience compiling j-alice....

it wouldn't nessarily produce good typing habit though would it...good for practice later on then perhaps....

I am not sure why but I never seem to get a clean iso download under TeenPup 2.14
but will try again on my other laptop with 3.00. Failing that I will very reluctantly bring
up W2K and try that.

No joy using Live-CD Puppy 3.00, md5sum shows a mismatch on the other laptop.

Sigh.

Will try again - downloading is now going much more quickly than before.

I turned off the screen saver and energy saver in case they are causing some sort
of corrupting interruption.

Hello edoc,
I use Prozilla Downloader which comes in TEENpup2.0.0 and has never let me down. It will keep redialing a website until it gets the whole iso if if it times out 200 times. it just keep trying until it gets what you want.

You can download it from MU's site but it also needs another dotpup to work.

I also had troubles with d/l when using Firefox. CLI and wget to the rescue, no problems.

Posting this using the new TeenPup 2.14 now and I can tell it is improved. I very much like the included CUPS and Java, thanks! Works good here with my Epson RX700. Java installed fine too.

On the other side, this release is a little too newbie for my own tastes but it would be great for grandma's / grandpa's. Ex. - I prefer to name things the actual program name. That's just my personal preference.

Anyway, great release all the same! What are the plans now?

First thank you for confirming my intension for TEENpup 2.14's menu to be newbie friendly.

I have plans to make TEENpup more useful with extra Apps that you don't normally see in a Puppy based distro, but it's early days yet.

I had quite a problem trying to find Prozilla.

A search on username MU brought me to a site in German - nothing there.

Finally tried a Forum search on Prozilla and found your old post among others.

http://pkagfiles.net/.isos-fM9/TEENpup/ is not working.

Tried Prozilla on http://puppyisos/isos/2007-07-12-to-12/teenpup2.14.iso
and after 58 tries it also does not seem to be working.

Ideas, please?

HOORAY!!

My TEENpup 2.14 upgrade appears to have gone smoothly - so far everything in
Seamonkey appears intact.

It is 2 hours later than I should be up so more tomorrow.

Well Done Mr. Biles & Thanks to MU for Prozilla!

Streaming Audio works on BBC but not video here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/tv/d/

The window opens but nothing plays. Anyone else seeing the same result?

Also, this site: http://www.seehawaiilive.com/skea-cam.cfm calls for application/x-java-vm

Any chance TEENpup has resolved that?
