What Windows applications do want?
As I'm sure all of you know there are a variety of ways to run Windows and DOS applications in Puppy.
The main application I want to run is Photoshop (and I do)

If you've got Java installed, check out TonicPoint.Crash wrote:I think a PowerPoint viewer would be nice. I tried a web based one a while ago but that doesn't do me any good on a stand-alone computer.

New Wine
http://winehq.org/?announce=0.9.52
I have Win 98 on my hard disk and boot and run Tmxxine Shard 2.17 from CD (I find this more reliable than Shard 3.01 as the Puppy 3 series is still developing)
I also have a (collapsed) Linux bloat (either PcLinuxOS or U-bunting)
Have not used either (well can not with the failed Linux) in months
Just about to boot into Puppy Dingo Alpha for some tests
What was the question again? What Window apps I want?
I did run Dreamweaver in Wine but it is better run natively in Windows.
My philosophy is if you need Windows. Use it. Chances are you paid for it so many times and continue to do so . . .
If you just need Puppy (and many of us find that more than sufficient) use it.
You can have and use both if you need them. The best for you will win your favour . . .
Lose the bloat
Stay frisky

Maybe I bit off more than I can chew. I didn't have Java loaded, so I went to the Sun web site and got the JRE. I had to increase my save file from 64MB to 256MB before it would install. Now the Dancing Duke moves around, so that works. I installed the tonicpoint .pet package and it shows up on my Document menu, although it doesn't do anything yet when I click on it. Is having JRE the same the same thing as having Java? I'm running a frugal Puppy 3.01 install.
/// Edited an hour later:
Hey, It works! I also installed a JAVA bug fix from http://puppylinux.ca/bugs/ and TonicPoint now works! I had to increase my save file another 256MB - it is now 512MB. Now to see if it boots on my USB stick. Cool.

eMule (MorphXT) eDonkey2000/Kad peer-to-peer filesharing
... eMUle is open-source, so I don't quite understand why the *nix community has made xMule & aMule instead of porting the real thing. (programming language issues? widget/toolkit wars?).
xMule & aMule get the basics done, but after using a serious eMule mod like MorphXT, it feels like using a Fisher-Price version. (I got eMule working with Wine /WineXS on Hacao... but Hacao's in Vietnamese!)

I'll betray my advancing years with this confession: I run Wine solely to play two ancient 16-bit Windoze games to which I am (obviously) addicted:

Stars! (grandaddy of all 4X space conquest games):

Apart from that, Lighthouse Puppy is my workaday & play OS.

Thanks, but, been there, done that. The Java soundbank, even the deluxe one, sounds terrible. Timidity also sounds pretty bad relative to what I'm used to with Windows.Inuyasha wrote:Try TuxGuitar. I use TextAloud from nextup.com to make talking books from ebooks. I'm using Wine 9.17 and TA works beautifully. I'm able to split the text files into 5kb packages and convert them to mp3's. TA appends sequential numbers before the file extension, ie: Wizard_of_OZ_001.txt. Each file plays for about 5 minutes. My mp3 player plays files in the order they are loaded so I have built script files to load them sequentially.
There's a light-cycle racing game called 'glTRON' (see www.gltron.org) that I quite like.
Yeah, I can run Armagetron, but I prefer playing glTRON - but I can't seem to get the Linux version installed and working in Puppy.
