Just discovered the HotPup program (Desktop Mountpoints) created by Dougal.
Hotpup deserves some feedback.
How are you getting on?
Bugs here?
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/TalkingStickBugs
The only way to appreciate what is needed is to use the
base remaster tweaked by Ttuuxxx
images preview should be on in Rox
(how many people will know where to turn it on?)
The version of Seamonkey is 1.06 - is a later one possible?
Can/should any of the tutorials here be included?
Are any updateable?
http://rhinoweb.us/
Robert what needs testing in particular?
Ttuuxxx, what do you need for the next compile and download?

Yes Hotpup is great.
Tronkel put it in his 2.16CE and I'm waiting for feedback from a group of historians.
EDIT: By the way Jack's 2.16CE is a beauty.
Definitely...Hotpup....but it already should be in 2.14CE

I will upload the folder that I extracted from 2.14R for use in 2.16CE so that you can have a look Mark. It doesn't seem to be fully functional in 3 series Puppies. There is a problem with updating the PuppyPin configuration in ROX. Works OK in 2 series with maybe some arcane mounting issues on certain hardware. But mostly runs very well..
If this could be fixed, I'd include it in Chihuahua core for 3.10CE
Get it here:

Dougal who wrote the scripts has never made an official package of HotPup AFAIK.was there ever released a package of hotpup?

Hotplug
Hotplug is a MUST have feature. One of the main problems new puppy users that have only used windows before is accessing their drives and navigating the file system. Puppy has excellent file compatibility with their existing data, but these go to waste if they dont know where to get it. Also many of the file associations are not setup by default so this can cause disappointment.
Somthing I think would be a very useful feature for new users is a "symbolic link" or shortcut from the "/root" directory to these drives that appeared/disappeared as things were mounted. Most new users will not be familiar with the "/mnt/home" notation used to mount drives in linux. When they save a file they create with an application, most default to the home directory of the current user (in puppy's case, this is always "/root"). Having links here would allow them to easily find their drives.
In ecopup I use an icon for the drive that has a small windows logo on to represent a fat32 or ntfs formatted drive. I find this improves comprehension also.
With regards seamonkey, I understand that the latest version is quite a bit bigger (i tried adding it to ecopup with little success, but that was probably down to me!). 64mb is a "sweet spot" amunt of RAM used by many older machines, and although puppy wont be able to run fast from RAM, it would still be nice if it would at least work slowly on this size of machine,
@Lobster What was the purpose you had in mind for this thread, would you name it? To my knowledge, Pizzasgood has already created a revised initrd and packages for 2.14r that will create a bootsplash (with a pfix=nosplash option to turn it off). If he is reading he would be very welcome to add it and repost the ISO with it included if ttuxxx is not already adding things (wouldnt want to create a "fork"). The main things to test are the new features listed in [url=http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=26308]this thread[url] at the moment.

It consists of a new initrd.gz file along with several new scripts in the pup_xxx.sfs file (remaster script, install scripts, rc.local0, and rc.sysinit).
I don't have the time to implement it. I wrote up pretty detailed directions and it's a pretty simple process. As long as nobody has modified the involved scripts yet, it's very easy to install. If whoever tries it gets stumped, just toss me a PM or email.
One of the reasons I set that deadline for myself last week is because from here until Spring Break (late-March) I'm going to be swamped with "other stuff", with little to no time to work on Puppy. Starting tomorrow, which became today five hours ago....
On the plus side, I'm going to be busy with interesting stuff. Well, not really. But it is compared to the stuff I'd have been busy with last year. This stuff is at least half related to my major.

Re: Hotplug
Promiscuously starting new threads with vague titles does little more than expand the corral which lead devs are trying to maintain. It also increases the chances of something falling through the cracks.ecomoney wrote:@Lobster What was the purpose you had in mind for this thread, would you name it?
