Your camera also should work with 640x480.
I also added a startup-script for X.

WhoD writes:This currently requires, that you run Muppywebcam before skype, as it loads all Kernel-modules for you.Open Skype, open Main Menu and select Options>Video Devices. Your Logitech Quickcam should be shown as the available device. Click the Test button, but make sure you have sufficient light or the output will look pretty dark.
To avoid this, you can do this:
edit the file /root/.xinitrc
Add as second line (after the line "#!/bin/sh") this line:This will load only the Kernelmodules, when X starts, but not run gmplayer.Code: Select all

yes, that is ok.Works fine on the small and large size but fails with an "out of numeric range" error on the middle size.
Not every resolution is supported by every camera.
Mine will make 352x288, but not 640x480.
I will add a text that explains it, when I translate Muppywebcam.
Wish you good luck with skype
Mark
I really appreciate your patience and persistence and your shared expertise!
I bought this particular webcam both because it was said to be Linux-friendly and because it was said to be good both for closeups and for use with telescopes (I also acquired the telescope adapter).
A friend assists me in fixing things, especially radios, and I am hoping to be able to send him snapshots of a circuit from which he may advise me.
Lots of fun to be had now!
Thanks again!

The current version of SKYPE loaded up fine and sees my webcam fine.
I need to test the audio and then videoconference with a neighbor for a test.

Hello all,
I have just got a Logitech Go webcam that should work.
After some research I found that it should use the spca5xxx driver ok.
As I use puppy 3.01 .I searched this forum and found this thread. I decided to try MU's GSPCA-2007-24-12-kernal 2.6.21,7 pup
Very good so far. It seems to work and I could get an image in Skype.
Now I want to try with Videoview but I get nothing. It does not detect the video device. Maybe only works with uvc driver ?
Now I try Just Gregs solution to test the cam in eeepc.
ffmpeg -vd /dev/video -f video4linux -r 25 -s 640x480 -sameq -y test.mpg. (I also tried video4linux2)
This fails with error as follows.
[video4linux2@ 0xb7ed4f80] Cannot open video device /dev/video :No such device Could not find video grab device.
Well /dev/ video exists as a link to video0 and running cat /dev/video shows it to be working.
Any thoughts ? Perhaps the wrong driver ? would seem not as it works in Skype. I'd really like to get videoview to work.
Thanks,
John Lewis

Hello edoc,
Thanks for reply.
The videoview program was mentioned on the pupeee thread in the derivatives forum. It works fine on the eeepc.
You can get it from:
http://www.linux-projects.org/modules/m ... .php?cid=5
It is a tar.gz so you need to open it with xarchive.
You only need the executable. Put it where you like. Click on it to start. no needto compile or anything.
it allows you to view the cam output and to save as avi etc.
Hope that is of interest.
I will continue to experiment and will get this to work sooner or later.Pretty sure the problem is driver related somehow.
John Lewis

Hello edoc,
Sorry to reply so late . My wife broke her leg and I've been concerned with that for the last week or so.
Interesting. I have found the same problem with videoview and Logitech cam although it works in the eeepc with the eeepc cam.
I will have to try with muppy webcam and mplayer and see if I can get a result.
I know the cam is working because it functions in Skype.

Is this thread still going? Anyhow, I'm trying the 3.01 MWC on my 3.01 Retro laptop box. Can you please interpret this for me? I'm trying a little Argus stick cam, I don't remember what the actual cam chip is it uses. The LCD display on the cam turns on when I plug it in. Here is the output from Muppywebcam and lsmod:MU wrote:ok, thats it (use pwc instead of gspca):
When I reboot with camera attached, the LED on the camera turns on.
So some kernelmodule was loaded.
lsmod
tells me:As we get errors about v4l2, we must disable the driver that uses it, then load the old v4l driver.sn9c102 103436 0
compat_ioctl32 1408 1 sn9c102
videodev 27904 1 sn9c102
v4l1_compat 14596 1 videodev
v4l2_common 16896 2 sn9c102,videodev
This seems to be new in Puppy 3, maybe Puppy 2 did not have v4l2 yet.
So I type:
rmmod sn9c102
modprobe gspca
gmplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l:width=352:height=288:device=/dev/video0
Then it works for me.
After correcting the saturation in the equalizer, it looks like attached.
