Pmount doesn't show USB pen drive

#1 Post by malte »

I booted from CD to install Puppy 4.0, but all of a sudden my USB pen drive (Adata 16 GB, FAT32) doesn’t pop up in Pmount anymore (same problem on different Computers).
Another pen drive works, so I suggest its something wrong with my one, even though it works fine under Win XP.
I deleted the partitions I made before and formatted it under Win XP but I still cant see the drive in Pmount.
Any suggestions?

Have you tried clicking the Refresh button? I find that some flash drives need a couple of hits to be detected.

Yes, I tried also the 'mut' Engine. It doesn't help.

Plug it in and run the GParted partition manager. Select your device from the Drives list at the right end of the menu bar. Does Gparted detect anything unusual?

Hello malte,

If you've got the time to generate some debugging info for me, I'll see if there is a problem with mut that I can fix to help you out?

First make sure that you've only got the one usb drive inserted (less to look at in debug info), give it 10 seconds for the kernel and usb system, then type into a command prompt:

/usr/sbin/mut --noserv --debug --nothreads > output.txt

This will send all the debugging information to a file called output.txt,
gzip it (gzip output.txt) and then post it here, and I'll diagnose it.

Regards
Jesse

Hello Andrius,

I had a look, and I'm sorry to say that there is no indication of your phones storage device from the kernel.

The drives that mut does see:

sr0: cdrom sata DVDRAM GSA-H62N
sdb: 200GB disk sata 1 partitions
sda: 160GB disk sata 5 partitions

Maybe google search for someone else that has managed to get their Samsung U700 to work with linux? to see if its possible, and maybe how to make it work.

Regards
Jesse

(1) Try if it's shown when running (from rxvt)

Code: Select all

fdisk -l
(that is small letter l). If not, no partitions are found on the pendrive (boot sector/partitiontable might be messed up).

(2) Various USB pendrive tools can be found at http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ (look under heading "USB Linux Help Sections" in left-hand column).
