I have macpup on the Asus EeePC and it looks wonderful. :)
Runs very smooth, only hiccup is the dock is just a tad to wide maybe 8%. So the finder and reboot icons are off the screen. Im going to dig around the config files and see what i can come up with.
It's funny how the colors of the real world only seem really real when you viddy them on the screen.

@hoki:

You can edit /root/.xinitrc and find for "wbar".

Change the current wbar line to:

Code: Select all

sleep 3 && wbar -above-desk -jumpf 1 -pos bottom -nanim 3 -zoomf 1.8 -idist 10 -isize 32 -bpress -balfa 80 &
This should make wbar perfectly fit in Asus Eeepc.

Limit on encrypted save size?

#43 Post by mentat »

Prit, great job on Macpup! I installed on a thumb drive in a 1GB partition. When I shut down for the first time, I selected the encrypted save option, but the maximum size it offered was 95MB. Any ideas on how I can up that to 200MB or so? Thanks.

@mentat:

Thanks.

Do you know if your thumb-drive has more than 95MB free space available? Macpup is Puppy Dingo with slight additions related to looks. So you may want to post a new thread on the forum asking for help with this.

Enough Computer?

#45 Post by daklander »

I like the looks of this version but upon running live cd it was really slow to boot and quite slow to react. The browser never did open.
The machine is an old Celeron 633MHz with 192Mb Ram. Is that enough? Puppy 4 runs fine, seemingly much faster than previous versions.

@daklander:

Macpup has only few things added over Puppy 4.00. If Puppy 4.00 runs fine, Macpup should also. There was some discussion on this thread concluding that Puppy 4.00 might require more than 200 MB RAM to run fully in RAM. Macpup may require a tiny bit more. Thats all.

'K, thanks.
I read quite a bit about Puppy 4 and some on Macpup. I used some earlier Puppy versions but stopped with 3.0 because I never could get the wireless working, something that earlier versions did. Version 4 was a snap and it's quite fast on that machine but the looks of this Macpup are very good. I guess I'll go ahead and do an install over the next couple of days and see how it runs installed. I'll report back.
Thanks again.

I just tried it on my Dell Inspiron laptop. It wil boot up, but a few minutes later I get the error message:
pup_400.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial ramdisk console...

Any thoughts? Lighthouse Pup 2.15 works perfectly on this machine...

@KF6SNJ:

Are you running a CD or frugal or full install?

It is created to look for pup_400Mac.sfs.

Booting from CD without any other version of puppy installed. Installed is PCLinuxOS. I know I could completely wipe the hard drive using Ultimate Boot CD, but I don't feel I should have to. I have had a similiar problem with regular Puppy 4.0 and PCPuppyOS on this laptop. Oddly, it is only on the laptop that I have this problem.

@KF6SNJ:

Can you let me know what kind of cd drive you are using? I guess I have pmedia=idecd parameter on the Grub line. If your cd drive does not fall under the idecd category, then this might be the problem.

Is there an alternate cd setting? Like I said earlier, Lighthouse Pup worked.

Never mind. IDE=NODMA worked.

I installed macpup to a 2gb sd card on my eeepc 4g , it boots and looks good but I have a few problems .
1 I cannot use xorg , the wizard finds the correct resolution and "test" is ok but as soon as ok is selected it
locks up so hard that I have to shut down with the power button .
2 I am having a shutdown problem , selecting shutdown (or reboot) usualy locks the machine to where a PB shutdown is required
no pupsave file is generated , only once did I get as far as creating a pupsave file and that prevented the machine from booting
puppy again until I booted into xandros and deleted the pupsave2.sfs .
I am also having the "wide bar" problem , but I saw the above post about how to cure that , my main problem rightnow is
the shutdown one , until I can get it to shudown cleanly and generate a good pupsave working on the rest is a waste of time
any advice would be appreciated . I tried modprobing i915 before running the xorg wizard no help .
additional info , I installed mackpup by booting the livecd with a usb cddrive and using the puppy universal installer , sd card is formated fat16
and syslinux for booting , I want the pupsave file to go to the sd card not the internal ssd .

@ronacc:

Do you have a Puppy 4.00 (Dingo) install that works (or worked) well on this machine?

@ronacc:

I was trying to find out if your machine works with Dingo at all. Because Macpup is just appearance enhancement over regular Dingo. I am considering releasing an addon pet package for regular Dingo so that its appearance can be changed to Macpup.

ok I tried dingo and here are the results . sd card formated to fat16 , installed with puppy universal installer and used syslinux to boot .
boots ok had to select xvesa as stated above but this time with straight dingo modprobing i915 and running the xorg wizard gets me into an xorg destop
however I lose the tap feature of the touchpad which worked with xvesa , shutdown and save still results in a corrupt pupsave2.sfs . I will try a few more things tomorrow it's late here now (eastcoast US) anything particular that you want me to try ?
