Where are the files to make Puppy understand Japanese?

#1 Post by codePhantom »

I tried to follow the guide here on how to get Japanese input and fonts, but when I got to this part,
...this forum. It doesn't matter.

2. Go to the following Japanese Puppy Linux site and download the listed 6
packages below:
a) canna-3.6.pet
b) gconv4dingo.pet
c) ja_e-0.02_301.pet
d) libxcb-1.1-i686.pet
e) scim-1.4.7-i486-5.pet
f) scim-canna-1.0.1-i686.pet
Click the pet packages to install them.

3. Go to "Start"--->"Settings"---->"C...
I couldn't find the files anywhere. I searched google and the forums but I couldn't find most of the files(and I know its there because I found it once about two days ago but I reinstalled puppy). I hoping that someone could direct me to where the files are or upload it on a server if you could.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry but I only need the files(Not puppy japanese) as I already have puppy installed and just need japanese input (SCIM with Canna) but I cant find the files.

I want puppy to be in English but able to enter Japanese input(like I was able to do before).

Dear codePhantom

I think it should be possible to help you, but I'll need a bit of time to compile the scim-canna package and test it. More information (lots of it) is available on the 41 LANGUAGE PUPPY thread in Puppy Projects.

Scim-anthy and some other Japanese input systems are already available, and they don't require a Japanese Puppy in order to work.

codePhantom:
What version of Puppy are you running?

I can get the scim-canna packages to work on Puppy 2.17 and 3.01, but not on Puppy 4.00

If you have one of the earlier Puppies, I can upload them somewhere for you.

Irihapeti

Update:
Scim-canna now works in Puppy 4.00 as well.

These files are needed: scim-1.4.7-i486.pet, scim-bridge-0.4.15-i486.pet, scim-canna-1.0.1-i486.pet, canna-3.7p3-i486.pet, - and gconv4dingo.pet if you have Puppy 4.00. They are available here: http://www.puppylinux.ca/members/Irihapeti/

Thanks for the post!

Do you have your procedures documented? I would like to try it on Puppy Linux 4.00 Dingo.

Many thanks!

There is some documentation on installing Scim and scim-bridge in Puppy 4.00 (and other Puppies) here: http://www.puppylinux.org/wiki/multi-li ... al-how-tos I've been working on it in the last few hours, and I'd welcome some feedback.

Kana work, kanji don't

Hi,
first of all a big thanks to everyone involved in creating the scim-packages! 8)
I nonetheless have a problem with it not working properly yet.
I followed the instructions to install it and it writes Hiragana and Katakana, but when I press space to turn them into Kanji I get an error message which I think tells me that it cannot find a suitable Kanji-dictionary. I put a screenshot of it at the bottom. I have some japanese fonts installed and can read webpages just fine (if what I do counts as reading  )

Can anybody tell me what this message means and how I can get Kanji-Input?

Edit: I think I figured it out: The message means that scim cannot connect to the cannaserver, which is because it was disconnected (for whatever reason I do not know). After executing /usr/sbin/cannaserver it now works. :D

Many thanks indeed!
