How to have a pretty pretty puppy 4.0 ( Or one with gtk2+)

#1 Post by olovram »

This will only work on gtk2 apps, so if you have an older puppy, it might not work
on you.
1
Install this package:
http://files.filefront.com/gtk+engines+ ... einfo.html

That intalls about 7 different gtk2 theme engines. It also installs some ( well, quite a lot, actually) gtk2 themes, to show how each engine looks like. Some themes I modifieded them myself :D

2
Go to http://www.xfce-look.org or http://www.gnome-look.org. Enter the section GTK2 Theme/Styles. Look for a theme you like.
Select it
Download it pressing the download button XD
Save it to your desktop.
It will, most likely, come in a .tar.gz file

3
If you use Xfce(like wNOP, NOP or the Xfce .sfs,) , extract the theme to .themes in your root folder. If it doesnt exist, create it.

If you dont use Xfce, (like openbox, jwm, icewm) , extract it to /usr/share/themes.

4
If you use xfce, open the settings manager window and go to User Interface. There you can select the theme you want.
###Warning!### the process which handles the gtk themes is quite heavy, I would recommend installing lxappearance instead.

If you dont have xfce, Im not sure how to change your gtk theme apart from replacing the .gtkrc file

To change the icons you do the same thing, but instead of extracting the .tar.gz to .themes, you extract it to .icons XD

My apologies for my english, Im mexican

Hi,

I installed this .pet and there were a whole bunch of dependencies missing: libgdk_imlib.so.2, libgtk-1.2.so.0, libgdk-1.2.so.0, libgmodule-1.2.so.0 and libglib-1.2.so.0. I think some of the theme engines are working because I went to the CH theme changer and there are a whole bunch of new ones that work well, but some of the new ones don't work at all and I was wondering if these dependencies were fixed maybe they would work too.

Cheers

Check here for the dependencies:

Not sure if it will solve your problem though.
