crabbypup wrote:you are welcome. it requires you to have wavplay installed. i don't know if it comes with puppy or whether you have to download it. could someone confirm this?
I'm pretty sure wavplay is in 3.01 but I can't say for Dingo. I use it in my 3.01 install to play a startup sound, but not for shutdown; I usually prefer Puppy to go to sleep as quickly as possible.

Hope that helps.

Wavplay was already in 4.0...works like a champ.

I couldn't remember exactly how you did it (I was trying to copy your instructions from memory, crabbypup) so I put a wavplay script in the /root/Startup folder for startup, then modified the shutdown/reboot with your suggestions. Works great... :D

For Muppy I had reports, that wavplay did not work with some cards, while aplay does.

First, I renamed wavplay to wavplay.puppy.
Then I created this new wavplay:
#!/bin/ash

arg=`echo $@ | sed 's#.* ##'`

aplay "$arg" &
But now wavrec would no longer work.
So I deleted the symlink wavrec, and created a new one:
cd /usr/local/bin
rm wavrec
ln -s wavplay.puppy wavrec

Seems to work, though I did not test it intensively.
Some arguments might not work.

But I think it is mainly used to play files, so working sound has priority for me.

This is how I set up my start up /shut down/reboot tunes in Macpup Foxy (dingo) .

First put your .wav files in /usr/share/audio .

Then use this line where you want it to play like .xinitrc or wmpoweroff...

aplay /usr/share/audio/startup.wav

or

aplay /usr/share/audio/exit.wav

Hi all,

This is Dingo 4 Barebones, well actually 3.94, with ttuuxxx's icewm lite and JQ-8's Zabuton icons. The wallpaper is from Kde-look.org. Also added Opera 9.5 as a Browser. The whole Puppy is only 65 megs remastered. Makes for a great distro.
Thanks to Barry and the other guys for a great job.

For 65MB thats a excellent job:) You should release it!
also you might like my icewm for 4.0 it 2.6MB but it replaces 86 default icons, so really its around 1.5MB or less.

ttuuxxx,

Thanks, glad you like my Pup. There are sooo many version 4 Puplets out there, that I don't think we need another one. This has turned into a hobby for me, making a usable system and trying out different ideas. It's guys like you that gives me the 'pieces-parts' that enables me to make this possible. That being said, I will give your request some serious thought. Thanks. lj51

Hi! I'm quite new to Linux world. I wanted to make a Mac look for my Puppy, without installing docks. I think I install them, my pc will suffer eheh (I've a PIII 650Mhz).
I found a mac tiger os theme and I set as puppy wallpaper :)
This is a nice thread! :)
If you have any suggestion for improving my mac like theme tell me, pls.

I've made my Puppy little more suitable to me.

Still very basic, but now I have a cool looking console and system monitor.

Image

(resized it to be more friendly this time)

If your wondering, my wallpaper is a picture I took. I just set the timer of my camera and then twisted a smaller mirror back and forth to get that glare effect.
