Installation of Macpup Foxy Stuck on X

#1 Post by Ketracel »

I'm trying to install Macpup Foxy on an old sony vaio laptop. I've wiped the HD with DBAN and put the ISO in the CD and booted up, I go through a few options, the first I assume is asking me if I want to install to HD or just RAM. I choose not RAM.

The next few options are for keyboard layout and video, which I choose as 800x600 resolution.

This is where things get hairy. This is my third attempt and now I'm getting a black X with a white outline on the monitor.

Before... the first time I attempted install, after a long wait, I got the X and a dialogue telling me that everything was ok and that I could click on the OK button or better yet, use ctrl+alt+del to exit the test.

The second and third time, I chose not to TEST, just clicked OK and I get a black X with a white border on a black background in the center of the monitor. And that's it.

nothing happens, it is just frozen.

any help appreciated. Thanks

ps is there a walkthrough for macpup anywhere? I haven't found any online, nor a wiki.

Hello Ketracel, First off you havent gotten to the point where you can install foxy. All of the stuff you are doing is setting up to run live off the cd.The next time you try, when you get to the part where it ask you to pick xorg or xvesa pick xvesa . You will need 256 mb ram for foxy to run well. After you get to the desktop you will need to use gparted to make two partitions on you hd, a 1 gb swap and the rest to a ext2 or ext3 partition where puppy will live.

look over these before you try it....

Macpup foxy is based on dingo 4.0 the manual for it is also for foxy.

Anytime the GUI isn't workign properly, you can push CtrlAltBkspace to kill it and drop to the CLI. From there, you can type "xorgwizard" to run that (and try ydifferent configs or use Xvesa) or type "xwin" to try X with that same settings.
