Aligning desktop icons?

#1 Post by Bill_Gates »

I realize this is petty but is there any way, command or tool to align the icons on the desktop???
v4.1

Now I will prepare to be flamed!

Why would you expect that here, Bill? You're an old hand around here by now! :P

Right click any desktop icon and choose ROX-Filer>Options>Pinboard>Pinboard behaviour and choose an appropriate grid step for the icon size you are using. The icons will automagically fall into line with the chosen grid pattern when you move them around manually.

There is no alignment tool per se, but the invisible grid makes it easier than doing it by eye. The coarser the grid step the easier the alignment.

Hope that helps.

With the face you have and that name, you are the devil in disguise.

As well in W and P and for years already I position icons myself on the desktop. You have some advice given already.

Maybe for the benefit of all, you could develop a script (shouldn't be difficult being Bill_Gates) to arrange icons, f.e., by name, no?

Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

It was such a ridiculous question! I really should have known that! You know, being Bill_Gates and all!!

Thanks for the help. Having that set to "fine grid" was driving me nuts!

I don't know why but you really seem to gave a problem with my lovely face.

I rather like it as it stares back at me from my recently acquired $18,000.00 - 16th century - Baroque Italian Giltwood Mirror

I will start work on that script ASAP!

Thanks for the idea! :)
