I think i might use that in alpha 5.ttuuxxx wrote:Here's the link for Seamonkey 2.0 alpha 2 on this forum

And i'll probably fix the Xorg errors with the keyboard.
but other than that, it's currently quite stable.
but it still could use testing.
I would recommend that anyone in the project that is able to test it, should. because with some testing we can find bugs, and fix bugs.
that's the thing with bug fixing. the more the merrier (bugtesters and fixers that is) .

also one thing being overlooked is that in 3 months of its testing alpha 2, that it only had 4 responses, There wasn't any interest in Seamonkey's future with users. Unlike any Firefox releases on here. we've had a few poles on here with browsers and Firefox was always first place, most of the time Opera was a far second and actually the only reason why Seamonkey is default is that its a wysiwyg editor for web pages, a email client, and a browser all in one and kind of small when you weigh in the size. ttuuxxx

that's kinda why i like it. good size for what it comes with. And maybe if they learn that seamonkey 2 has a core more like firefox. maybe they might like it.ttuuxxx wrote:also one thing being overlooked is that in 3 months of its testing alpha 2, that it only had 4 responses, There wasn't any interest in Seamonkey's future with users. BUGS FOUND IN ALPHA 4:
Rox-Wallpaper issue. - oversight, can easily fix in alpha 5
my-downloads symlink - oversight, can easily fix in alpha 5
default gtk rather than stardrops. - need to setup stardrops as the default theme somewhere, i think it's a config file in the home directory that would manage this
networking issues - should have been fixed, i installed the needed fixes, as i needed them to even get the software. problems involving them and the remaster system. plan to modify the sfs in alpha 5 to include these. if this cannot be fixed, then i will work to find another remedy.
Xorg + keyboard issue: Most keys do not work while in Xorg. Most likely due to the version of xorg we use. Might be fixable by replacing the Xorg in it with a different version.
-- Seamonkey 2 alpha 2 --
Small text - Probably problems in iit's development, might be fixed in alpha 3 of it's release. There might be a workaround involving the files in /root/ and it's subdirectories.
-----------------------------------
That's all i could find in the ISO.
Please list any others you find.
I'll be updating the package pool on my machine soon.

Ok. Got the new ISO and it's running in Virtual Box right now. my only issue is that my half blind eyes can't see any of the text anywhere other than on the menu and bar at the bottom. I'll take some screenshots of it running in Virtual Box and attach them in a minute. I'm posting this form within the Puppy environment.

okay. well, on my side i have above 20/20 vision. But i did notice that some things were too small. i'll see what can be fixed in alpha 2. if i make alpha 2 that is.Evil20071 wrote:Ok. Thanks, but I am obsessed with having puppy in spanish Maybe later.J-Bob wrote:Basically a faithful update of 3.01. Built off the remains of the original 3.02 alphas made by ttuuxxx and tronkel.droope wrote:What are the caracteristics of this puppy?
Just curious.

I can give you the low-down on the current puppy situation.
the leaders for the three puppies are
Puppy 3.02CE - J-Bob
Puppy 4.2 - WhoDo
Puppy 5 - ttuuxxx
ttuuxxx is in the planning stage. WhoDo is working to prepare the next alpha, Don't know if alpha 1 has come out yet.
But currently, I'm just adding suggestions as they come in. SO it's being built like a puplet, but with it's design to be faithful to Puppy 3. This is why I'm near the state of being able to release 3.02CE Alpha 4 (My first alpha, as i'm building off Alpha 3), and i have only been it's coordinator for about 5 days. Guess it comes from my obsession towards puppy (no, literally. I am actually OBSESSED with Puppy Linux. It's primarily most of what i think about these days. and i Constantly talk about it.)
How else can i make a majoity of my posting, in the month i returned to the forum (I use that when i am Ridiculously Glad about something.
Well, that's basically it. WhoDo's is DeepThought. ttuuxxx's i think is New Hope.
and for mine. well it's "Stardrop", catchy name eh .
If you want to join the project, feel free to PM me the position you want.
That's something i want to emphasize in the project.

P.S. I replied using Alpha 2 of Seamonkey 2 which is in Alpha 4, and Alpha 4 is actually quite stable. I'm serious. Once i finish the final touches i'll upload it.
Cheers,
Droope
Just curious. Is the current alpha of this in your first post? If not, umm... where is it?
Also, double check the PMount in the one in your first post. I'm not sure if it's just Virtual Box, but it's dmesg reads the SCSI and ATA drive array of Virtual Box, but PMount shows... Nothing but the VirtualBox Floppy (Disabled) and the Virtual Box CD (Booted from it). Screenshot of that section of the dmesg is attached.

It is in the first post, you should see some blue text requesting that you click it.Evil20071 wrote:Just curious. Is the current alpha of this in your first post? If not, umm... where is it?

pmount seems to work for me decently. no idea what the problem is with your system however.
Not sure. It's in Virtual Box, so it might just be an emulation issue. It does read USB drives attached to the computer, however. Possibility it just doesn't want to read the emulated SATA drive? Not too sure myself. I will be loading it onto my flash drive and testing it out. Let me boot it with a higher debug level and see what I get.

hmm... try gparted to help set it up. it way not be a formatted image.Evil20071 wrote:Not sure. It's in Virtual Box, so it might just be an emulation issue. but i guess that you have done that already.
hopefully this will be figured out.
Looking well. I'm actually setting up puppy 4.1.2 and 3.02 as a dual boot inside Virtual box right this second... Once I got the stardrop theme set up as default on my boot, I can actually read things now. Still not with Seamonkey, but it's ok since I use Firefox myself. Firefox 3.0.5 works fine for me in 3.02.

well, the current idea is that we plan to use opera in stardrop as of alpha 5.Evil20071 wrote:Looking well. And i plan to make a cutdown called chihuahua.
and apparently ttuuxxx seems to have accepted me as tronkels equal and seems to have left believing i'm competent enough to work at this.
either way, what position would you like.
Developer
Bugfixer
or a different spot.
that's your decision.
Right now I'm hunting bugs... was downloading a new copy of Xorg to compile on it to see if it will fix the current issues with the Xorg/Keyboard issues in the current alpha. If it does, I'll make a .pet of it for you. I'm also looking into the issue with the GTK Theme not being Stardrops on default. I think I know which config it is stored in. I'll look into it in a little bit. Working on the Xorg thing now.
So... whatever stuff like that makes me... That, I suppose.

Bug fix for the theme defaults:
Open /root/.gtkrc-2.0
Replace "Phacile-Blue" in line 2 with "Stardrops". This will change the default theme to Stardrops.
You should end up with this:
Booted from the Live CD and tested it out. That file is the config for the default theme. I changed it the normal way with the GTK Theme chooser in my full install in Virtual box and that was the difference in the two files.
Should be able to replace it with that info and then reboot and it have stardrops as the default theme.
Open /root/.gtkrc-2.0
Replace "Phacile-Blue" in line 2 with "Stardrops". This will change the default theme to Stardrops.
You should end up with this:
Code: Select all
# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT
include "/usr/share/themes/Stardrops/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
include "/root/.gtkrc.mine"
# -- THEME AUTO-WRITTEN DO NOT EDIT
Should be able to replace it with that info and then reboot and it have stardrops as the default theme.
