Puppy Linux 3.10 Milestone 1 (aka Puppy 3.02CE)
Puppy Linux 3.10 Milestone 1 (aka Puppy 3.02CE)
Well, i finally got Puppy 3.02CE ready for release, and it only took about 3 weeks.
But for those who are wondering, I will be releasing 3.02CE-3.09CE as milestones for 3.10CE puppies, but letting the community work with me to help finish 3.10CE Lassie.
You can download it here
"http://www.leprichaunproductions.com/ev ... 3.02CE.iso"
And if people could make mirrors for this iso, that would be great,
But i recommend that you do not view this as a stable release. It's Alpha 1 of 3.10 or 3.1 Lassie.
And there are some bugs existing in it, which i am fixing up. One involving mut and it's disappearance.

What are the differences/benefits over 3.01?
2. Lacks as much function, but can be restored through package manager, or lassie/boxer modules.
3. New/Updated look.
4. HotPup for drive mounting (I prefer HotPup over pupevent)
5.Dillo2 added
6. New look on syslinux
7. I'm maintaining this release, and all later releases, as i'm the self-proclaimed maintainer of Puppy 3.xx
8. I have yet to sbe able to add something to the community webpage for this.
Hey cool deal. Fair warning, the link may be changing when I talk to Lep though. To something more like http://puppy.leprichaunproductions.com/ ... y-3.02.iso . If/when it does, I'll make this link clickable and post it again.

I have editor privileges on the site. If you want it listed as an official release, and the community agrees that it should be, I'll add it for you. The question becomes, what gets listed as the "newest" official release? That seems to be the problem with simultaneous development of multiple generations of Puppy.J-Bob wrote:scratch the p.s. Apparently they must have patched that hole.
hopefully i'll get a higher level of privileges. Otherwise, the most this puppy could be, is a puplet. And that would not be very good looking.
I'll start downloading it soon, but there are just too many Puppies coming out for me to give them all a thorough testing. If only I had more free time!
As for your "regular releases", I think that 3.03-3.09 should alphas/betas for 3.10CE. That's just my opinion, but given that you're largely working on this alone I think that you shouldn't focus on getting a bunch of full releases out.
Anyway, congratulations!

Well, i partially want to put some time in to get puppy 3 back on it's feet. And possibly 3.06/3.07-3.09 would be alphas and betas, with 3.10 being the CE.SirDuncan wrote:I have editor privileges on the site. And i hope you and the community will like 3.02.
And i'm planning to build a site for Puppy3 as a way of getting the latest release.
I might eventually fork Puppy 3 into TriPuppy Linux, as a renamed Puppy, to partially allow forks from it.
I might make Puppy 3.10CE just 3.10CE, but i'm thinking for Remnant (possibly 3.15CE) I might move it to TriPuppy 1.00CE Remnant.
If the community would like the idea.

Xorg is already fixed, so is Geany (i think), Puppy Installer, Networking, absvolume and aspm.

The name "Puppy Linux" is copyrighted by Barry Kauler. My laymans interpretation is that you need his approval to release an official version. See the bottom of the faq here http://www.puppylinux.com/faq.htm and alsoJ-Bob wrote:Should i put it in Puplets or in the official releases.

Than what about temporarily calling it "Tripup", that should be simple enough, and should not have too many issues.HairyWill wrote:The name "Puppy Linux" is copyrighted by Barry Kauler. But he did say an exception would be the community edition. So how about Puppy 3.02CE.
Hopefully that would be sufficient.
I'll pull the current iso to allow for a replacement tommorow.

J-Bob,
While you guys sort out all the legalities and such, just wanted to say that I like what I see here so far.
The stardrop theme is beautiful! Is there a pet of it, preferrably with the tray info included?
When I boot it on my system, the drive icons all pile up on top of the Rox icon in the upper left.
Otherwise, very nice. Clean, neat, and basic.

Puppy-3.02CE it should be. Project names and pet names aside, that's what it really is/was intended to be. Community Editions are NOT normally Official Versions until Barry and everyone else is happy that it represents the Puppy name well.SirDuncan wrote:If you want it listed as an official release, and the community agrees that it should be, I'll add it for you. On puppylinux.org the last Community Edition mentioned is 2.15CE. Jack (tronkel) had a 2.16CE in there somewhere but it never really took off because 3.00 had already landed.
That reference to 2.15CE can now be replaced with 3.02CE and the numbering updated as the other versions come out, all the way up to 3.10 ... which will be the ONLY true 3.xx series "official release" after Puppy 3.01, as envisioned by Barry when he originally set that option in motion.
@J-Bob Congratulations. I know you are eager, but the reason Barry planned such a long gestation for 3.10 (official) was to give us all time to ensure the intervening CE versions were up to the standard of an official release first. That won't have changed. Barry only consented to me coordinating the 4.2 official release because he had seen what I did with 2.15CE and approved. If he doesn't approve, then create your own derivative, but that shouldn't be necessary in the short to medium term. There is a fair journey yet to be travelled, mate.

Well said.Community Editions are NOT normally Official Versions until Barry and everyone else is happy that it represents the Puppy name well
Anyone can create a puplet
and for many people these can better suit their needs than the official version.
The first Puppy Community version 1.09CE was based on 1.08r1 - the last and most stable of the 1.xx series.
The difference was for the time considerable - it needed twice the ram (128MB to run comfortably) and included FireFox 1 and Geany
I would suggest that 3.10CE can be released as a Slackware compatible Puppy but it needs work that in the main is on a single developer.
J-Bob can you edit the wiki yet?
Re: Puppy Linux 3.02CE FINAL
J-Bob please put the iso back up. This project needs more community involvement. I would like to try it out and I'm sure other people would too.J-Bob wrote:"I pulled the iso, just to keep well with the community"
Thanks, WhoDo. It's been the project i've been working at for over 3 weeks, and it has some distance it still needs to cover.WhoDo wrote:Puppy-3.02CE it should be. And i'm staying with 3.xxCE for the long haul. So expect their to be releases now and again.
@HairyWill
I pulled it to keep legal issues out of the way, I should be able to hopefully fix the branding. But there are a couple of things i have to get done today.
@Sullysat
I think i have a .pet somewhere. I plan to upload it sometime.
But it should not be piling up, i set it up to load the icons into the bottom left. I'll check on that sometime today
@Lobster
From what i know i should be able to edit the lassie page.
I'll do that probably when i'm done my top priorities.
