Still no printing for me. I set up my printer (Brother HL-5140 monochrome laser, HL-1240 driver) just as I did in Puppy 4.1.1, where printing works. With TextMaker 2002, I got an error message saying "lpr: Error - no default destination available." I looked in CUPS for how to set my printer as the default destination--no luck! With WISH Supernotepad, which also invokes lpr, nothing happened. With AbiWord, my printer was shown, but the status was "paused" although CUPS said it was "Idle." No luck. With SeaMonkey, the printer was correctly shown as "CUPS/Brother HL5140"--but nothing happened. I looked in /var/spool/cups and no jobs were shown. Back to the drawing board again!
Tcl 8.5.6 "clock" bug (apparently resulting from excessive zeal in cutting Tcl package down) not fixed; the "clock" command still doesn't work, and apps that invoke it still won't run. But, on the bright side, I installed my tcl- and tk-8.5.5-runtime .PETs with no problem; then "clock" worked and apps ran.
No thunderbolts, I trust, have struck you down from on high for daring to produce a Puppy of slightly more than 100 MB total size. I would strongly suggest that you bite the approximately 2-MB bullet and put in Tcl/Tk with just about everything except demos and man pages. That way everything will be sure to work, and it will still be only about half as big as the 4-MB bullet you were previously thinking of biting.

IceWM taskbar still too cluttered. The "Shutdown" menu item should be changed to "Shutdown/Restart," and all sub-menu options should appear when the mouse is over the item, just as they do for "Desktop," "System," and all the other main menu items. New users are likely to be confused and even dismayed if they install packages and are told they have to restart the window manager to see a new menu item, but it isn't at all obvious how they're supposed to restart the window manager. "Shutdown" sounds pretty scary and not very relevant to merely restarting a window manager. Worse yet, after clicking Shutdown, and then the Advanced tab, I don't find "Restart IceWM" anywhere among the options! This is a change for the worse from 4.1.x, and really needs to be fixed.
A few great IceWM themes should be added. I suggest at least QuanX, ShineySingle, GoldenMood, Xtreme-Animated.
Thanks for trashing the Emacs GTK+ theme; the Raleigh theme is also ugly and not needed.
Please don't have xpad come up automatically.
By the way . . . you said you were going to get me the 4.2 versions of packages.txt and 0pkgs_db before the first beta. How about before the second beta, then? Like, um, maybe right about now?
