No Java plugin showing in SeaMonkey
No Java plugin showing in SeaMonkey
I do have Java on my system.
It's in /usr/lib/jre1.6.0_11/plugin/i386/ns7 and first I placed a link to it in .mozilla/plugins, but that did not seem to take any effect.
Next I tried to place a link in /usr/lib/seamonkey-1.1.11/plugins (two choices - so I tried both of them, one at a time) and that did not work either (does not show up in about:plugins)
Next I tried copying the file into the /usr/lib/seamonkey-1.1.11/plugins directory but that STILL did not take effect.
I don't understand. This is the way that I did it in SuSE and it worked there.

Code: Select all
ln -s /usr/lib/jre1.6.0_11/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so \
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
That did not work, the link is now there, but, it is not listed in SM plugins when I look at about:plugins. I also tested it by going to the NOAA site: http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid= ... 11&loop=no and when I clicked on the "loop" feature, I got the message: "Java is necessary for radar looping and is best optimized using Java version 1.4.2 or higher.
Go to www.java.com/en for more information regarding Java."
What else should I try? I wonder why SM won't register that Java is available?

I do have the java checked off in the SM preferences.
Maybe there is a slight variance?
Here is what I had put in another post:
/usr/local/bin/java points to ../../../root/jre1.6.0_11/bin/java but it is empty and the folder info says that it is empty or does not exist. (the icon is yellow with a !) Which file is supposed to be in there?
I have the plugin linked in /.mozilla/plugins and it points to /usr/lib/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so but when I view my plugins in SeaMonkey (about: plugins) java does not show up so I am not sure if SeaMonkey sees it. I guess it must be working because Gmail works nicely now. Anyway, I wanted to run a Java app from the desktop (SweetHome3D: http://www.sweethome3d.eu/ )and I wanted to try the webstart too.
java was installed using the pet package manager.

This is the result:
libjavaplugin_oji.so is in blue while the others are in green. flashplayer.xpt is in black, if the colors mean anything.
Code: Select all

I seem to recall that firefox/seamonkey is fussy on whether the plugins are actual or symlinks.

I've tried both linking methods but neither worked.
This thread, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=103543 talks about Flash. Also, the link that you gave, http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 99&t=15751 talks about Flash too. I don't have a problem with Flash, just Java.
I don't understand why SM won't see/use the Java when it's there and linked like it seems to want.
