How to start Gimp with an icon on the desktop?
Is there a way to move program starts from the menu to the desktop with an ICON? I have installed Gimp and would like to have an ICON on the desktop, but dragging and dropping doesn't seem to do it like it did for Firefox.
go to /usr/share/applications, then find Gimp-image-editor.desktop and drag it to desktop. Edit name by right clicking icon -> Edit item... You can set icon by right clicking on the desktop item -> File -> Set icon...

Perfect. Just what I needed.
For anyone following this, I found the easiest way was to drag the desired icon to the desk top then right click on the old icon and go to "set icon" and then drag the icon into the opened window. then delete it from the desktop. The new icon will be in place immediately.
Thanks for the guidance.
