I think it is negligible, didn't notice much difference running a fancy wallpaper to a minimal wallpaper on my old 486 with 32MiB ram._MegadetH_ wrote:I have a question: wallpaper with high resolution could affect the system? If I set with puppy default darkgrey.jpeg wallpaper does it takes less resources then 5Mb wallpaper? I know it's a silly question, but I remember in windows disabling wallpaper I had a little speed up
A 5MiB wallpaper? That's like swearing around here!

01micko, I don't have such a big wallpaper :p It was just curiosity. I like minimal things.01micko wrote:I think it is negligible, didn't notice much difference running a fancy wallpaper to a minimal wallpaper on my old 486 with 32MiB ram._MegadetH_ wrote:I have a question: wallpaper with high resolution could affect the system? here's a fake tabbed desktop using openbox and tint
wich i use on eee pc 701
openbox allows to undecorate windows and make them maximized ( there are options in rc.xml)
so i have "tabs" and use entire screen
tray icons load into stalonetray ( in bottom)
normally i do use just openbox without panel ( ALT=TAB can show all windows) but that tabs look cool also and my wife can find "disappeared windows"
also you can see transparent mc

Not so gorgeous as yours but..
My puppy screen is NOT, I repeat, NOT SO gorgeous as yours but I personally think it has its own atmosphere and style.
Specially the woman on the screen. whom you all know.
I's a plain 4.12 with icons, wallpapers, some theme and a couple of nice things here and there. Nothing fancy.
I think I'm gonna stick around with this style.

Hi all
Well this next screeny is not that flash but it more or less shows the power of Puppy.
It is of my 486 with 32M of ram running Puppy2.16 Dillo (although I prefer to use Netsurf, but it is slower ), with some 4.2DeepThought mods... wallpaper, icons and Pwidgets-2.0.5.

Oh, I forgot to mention it is a puplet from big_bass "fat_free"... only 53M iso and I am running it live with a 120M (I think?) swap partition. It goes slow but it goes and it does not crash! It is fine for browsing. I have it next to my dev box and I do use it almost daily. It is connected to the net thru my dev box thru my wireless network. It is 'bridged' with a utility called ShareInternet-2.0 by forum member 'gyro'. See his thread "Aditional Software|ShareInternet-2.0"
Cheers and don't thow away old stuff when you have Puppy!

Yeah, what Micko said! Don't get rid of it! I'm posting from a PII laptop, IBM Thinkpad...there's still life in it! Many of my other screenshots are from this little laptop..Puppy is amazing...puppyiso wrote:Looking good!
I was about to get rid of my old P II with 128MB RAM due to wife's nagging.
But seeing yours, I now can convince my wife. Thanks!
You and I are in for Gray and ecological attitude.
