ALSA 1.1.19 Pet for Puppy 4.2

#1 Post by JohnB »

Have had a double treat, got myself an HP Mini 2133 Netbook and at the same time Puppy 4.2 came out. The Netbook was as dynamic as a bucket of sludge with the SLED OS supplied but I always intended to load Puppy.
Puppy 4.2 as expected is fast and good and how pretty it is! Takes me back to Puppy 2.05CE another great version.

Anyway although most things work out of the box I find that the microphone doesn't. I am told the solution is to upgrade ALSA from 1.1.16 to 1.1.17or above(latest is 1.1.19 I gather). Would any of you compiling geniuses be able to create a PET for this? My Puppy tweaking ability is somewhat short of being able to do this from first principles.

Have to say once I have overcome these few teething problems this is going to be a very nice Puppy box.

This post was returned as a result of my search for an upgraded ALSA. May I thus second this request?

Thanks to everybody who help make Puppy Linux what it is. It is now running on at least 5 of the computers in my house doing everything from serious work to keeping the kids entertained!

Alsa lib 1.0.19 is already in Puppy 4.2, but the accompanying Alsa tools are still at 1.0.16, so when you use the tools you are told you have 1.0.16 rather than 1.0.19 - doesn't help your situation though. Try looking for tempestuous' thread on extra drivers for Puppy 4.x series to see if the issue can be resolved with a driver that supports your microphone.

Only the lib AFAIK. What's in there is what was supplied for inclusion. If you want the whole Magilla then find someone willing to compile from the source on Puppy or have at it yourself. All (working) contributions gratefully accepted.

@mikeb - it was in most of the 4.2 releases, but did miss on one or two; can't remember which ones. Certainly in the final though.

Nope need the full package ie with drivers for those including myself to deal with current mainly intel audio hardware.

I hope the eventual alsa update in puppy will not just be part of a kernel change
