is choise pup available for beginners?

#1 Post by rheya »

I'd like to give choisepup a try , but I wish to run it in live CD as usual.....
so I think I'll make a choisepup image on a virgin CD and then ?
I'd run it in my PC , then I'll save in mnt/home all the .sfs I wish to add and run some ( or all) of them if I like ....
please, tell me it's that easy.....
or not ?

Ice cream is exquisite: it's a pity it isn't illegal.

you boot from CD.
At start, you type:
puppy pfix=ram

This will load without your other savefile.
When you shutdown, you are offered to create a new savefile, and to give it a new name, like "choicepup".
When you boot from CD again (or from harddisk), you will get a small menu, where you can choose, which savefile you want to use.

To add several SFS, simply add them in the bootmanager in the menu.

thank you Mark,I did it and the few extra SFS I choised to add were ok, except firefox
I also notices that the mayority of the program is "virtually " present until you choise to add the SFS....
I discovered that with my portatil , the video card is xvesa ...and surprisingly my touchscree mouse worked, while in classical puppy 412 didn't.
thanks again

Hi rheya,

Thanks for trying my ChoicePup.

My apologies for the firefox problem. I am not a firefox user so did not discover until today that there was a problem with ChoicePup-v2 and firefox, also with googleearth. I have corrected the problem and reuploaded v2.

You can do one of two things:

1. Go to /root (little house "file") and delete the .mozilla and .googleearth symlinks. This should be enough to get firefox and googleearth running. (must use xorg for googleearth.

2. Download choicepup-4.1.2-k2.6.25.16-v2.iso again and burn another disk.

You also might want to download firefox again. I've made a small change there too.

Sorry for the inconvenience, J

hi jrb,
thanks for explaining, but I prefer to see if I could " live " with the programs I could add easier before trying to "fix " the problems..
it seems nor audacity or firepup working ...
but I have a web browser, so it's enough...
what about skype ?
is there any possibility to add it ?
please, tell me I could ....
BTW : I'll try the programs , so no mistake will last..
