the compiler has issues also
Package 'directfb', required by 'cairo', not found
and when you open up
/usr/include/cairo/cairo-directfb.h
you get this
# error Cairo was not compiled with support for the directfb backend

Got the compiler working properly in Dpup, I had to update a couple of the packages first. Now The new2dir script works :) and that means packages by the plenty, lol

it was the coreutils at fault, actually it was the install bin that was seg-fault but it was part of the package. So I compiled it and all is well with the new2dir script, but I had issues with compiling libxine/gxine and mplayer, I think the libxine would be a good start for compiler testing. I haven't tried libxine again since I updated the coreutils package, I'll try that in about 30 mins and report back more details.
I also compiled the latest autoconf, automake

coreutils, ok, I'll try that in upup, as I have the same problem. I notice a lot of packages in Debian Lenny and Ubuntu Jaunty are the same.
