I wouldn't add too much dinamic content in the main page, specially with CPU usage problems.
Sorry

Could we consider using TuxFamily as a host?WhoDo wrote:HostGator took us down AGAIN for high CPU usage! What th'!! They claimed it was because of 50 simultaneous accesses to the main page! I think we need to be thinking about another host. That's just rubbish, to kill the site without warning like that; not once but twice!Lobster wrote:Is anyone working on this?

You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Anyway, I made some changes to caching, etc and that seemed to satisfy them for the moment so it should be back now.
What is happening? You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
As you can see there were only 4 processes running at the time. That is nowhere near good enough IMHO. I believe we should be looking for another host with more concern for its users than HostGator has displayed.HostGator wrote:Reference: Monitor

Hello,
This is a courtesy notice to inform you that the following directory has been temporarily disabled due to excessive resource usage:
/home/whodo/public_html
As you can see above and below, the directory in question contains at least one script which was using more than the 25% CPU usage allocated to your account as per our terms of service. Because we were unable to identify the script (It was defunct in the process listing), we had no choice but to disable your entire public_html directory. Exact statistics are below:

There was plenty of warning: it's in HostGator's TOS.WhoDo wrote:Hostgator has killed off puppylinux.org AGAIN! That is the third time and also without any warning whatsover; just a "beg pardon" AFTER the event!
I note the HostGator plan is called "Baby Croc." Now without investigating, I can only deduce that this is a lower tier plan. Sometimes in the interest of saving money we short change ourselves, which I suspect is the case here....the directory in question contains at least one script which was using more than the 25% CPU usage allocated to your account as per our terms of service.
Actually, a better understanding of the TOS and adherence to it would have prevented the shutdown of the site.WhoDo wrote:TOS notwithstanding, an email to the admin with a chance to debug the problem before bringing the whole site down might have been much better customer relations from Hostgator.
Read the destription and the TOS very carefully.....there are limits imposed...the site exceeded them and that's why it was taken down. It matters not whether it's a home web site, a corporate one or a hobby site....it has limitations. We are not your average home web site, and Baby Croc is supposed to be an UNLIMITED hosting package (their description not mine).
And you're getting what you pay for.....a web site with limitations. The TOS applies to all of the plans....It costs us (me personally) around $US100 per annum for the hosting.
But.....their restrictions point out that you may be asked to get a private serverraffy wrote:Points well-taken. If the revenues will be sufficient, Virtual Private Server is being eyed for puppylinux.org, such as this one by dreamhost.
