I really like pwidgets in 4.2. Please consider preparing a woof version of these fine applications that is suitable for the repository.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim

Did you try running it in woof? I tried it in spup from the woof build system and everything worked ootb.

Give it a try.

Sigmund.

Do you have the source code for Patriot's xonclock and conky builds? They may need a recompile for woof. (stess "may" ), Perhaps xwinwrap and xli?

It indicates that it is installing in woof upup, however it did not complete the installation and corrupted my pup-save file. Fortunately, I always back up my pup-save files.

Hi Jim

I tried it too and yes, same problem :(

I'll take a look at it, it may well be that it should be installed through the package manager.

Cheers

Ok Jim

I found the problem. One of the dependencies of conky is libxcb. It seems that the lib in upup is an Ubuntu lib and the conky fix Patriot provided was compiled in Puppy with a slightly different libxcb. Conky will need to be recompiled for Pwidgets to work correctly, and maybe the other execs too, (though xonclock is working fine for me  ).

Cheers

Well,

I compiled conky -1.7 in upup, but I don't know how to hack it! Pwidgets works with it but the window options are wrong. A window shows with each widget and there is no transparency... but,, with someone elses conky expertise, it will work.

In the meantime, I'll keep trying. (BTW, the C executable I compiled is far too big, 300k  )

Micko,

Thank you for pwidgets_upup-2.08.pet. Installed it on upup and it runs great. It is impressive how you kept at it until you got it to work on the upup alpha.

Now, I hope that Barry will include it in the official woof repository. Yours and the other members of the pwidgets team efforts continue to make puppy a fun OS for all.

Thanks,
Jim

Thanks Boss Bling

One thing, my compile of conky is quite a bit larger than Patriot's, I'm unsure exactly what I can get away with, but the dumping of the libs offset most of the difference and the package is only 2kb compressed bigger than the original Pwidgets. I think that is ok for now, and I doubt if BK will have Pwidgets in his woof by default, he is pushed for space as it is. I'll be happy if he puts it in the official Puppy-5x repo. :D

Are you saying that Pwidgets for Upup has dependencies NOT included in the pet? If yes, will you please offer a ready-for-fools package?

NO! I'm not saying that! It works as far as I know (no complaints today 8) ) Dependencies already exist in Upup.. Xorg depends on them... remember, using Ubuntu Xorg and Ubuntu libs... . Nobody should have a problem using UPUP WOOF installing this .pet  . I would not repack it if I had a doubt.

Jim1911 reported it works well for him. Warren I think has it.. no complaints.. I tested it thoroughly.... older box too  I can't ell howmany downloads there have been because the forum is slightly broken... again :( . I bet trio has tried it  .

Hi there... I'm not hearing your broadcast :( The widget shows up but the alignment is wrong. Take a look at the other widget config files for a clue

The colors are usually defined in the config file, and from the theme files. all you have to do is assign a number... ${color1} .. up to 5 or 6 and it's not like html, not like tags :)

The progress bar is a little too long..can you shorten it?

I hope I don't sound too harsh! I can see the effort you've made and it is close! I wish I could hear it though! I see the progress and the file playing. It might be my system, I will check on another.

Pwidgets in Upup 476

#2377 Post by Schism »

Thank you for Pwidgets.
I have installed it in Upup 476 and all is well except that my wireless doesn't show. What shows is the code itself. I have the Conky manual and as far as i can see it is correct.

Hi guys - for the bling team, please convey a bit of feedback....

see mcewanw's comment

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 003#311003
'.....The recent official puppy has also increased the use of embedded bling.

Woof system seems promising. Perhaps there will be a non-X option? Apparently "bling" will be an option only with woof, which is great since a lot of bling and desktop clutter generally tends to be discriminatory and difficult for screen readers to handle, IMO, unless it is particularly designed to increase accessibility.....'
(my emboldening, for effect)

His work with visually impaired users seems affected by 'the non-bling option/puppy not being user friendly to handicapped users' option problem

Anything you can do to help/can this accessibility option be mainstreamed??

Aitch :)
