Just recompiled GtkHash and boy did I get small I removed all the other hash formats other than md5 and SHA1. I'll include it in the next release also.
Just updated it somewhat, now you can right click on a iso, pet, tar.gz, tar.bz2 file and select 'gtkhash' from the top menu in rox"

Hi ttuuxxx,
Nice to have these new pets. Especially an email client. Really essential in my opinion. Will test and of course report back if any problems.
Much earlier in this thread you did say to someone to remind you about adding HardInfo. Here's that reminder!
I wanted to download your small sized Open Office but the site is down until July. Is it hosted elsewhere?
Not tried it yet but are we still limited to 3 sfs files in this or have you added the scripts (or whatever it is) that increases this number?
Two things MHHT says above I really agree with.
Firstly that the "C lib locale - falling back to ... " error is problematic.
Secondly...fix that and you have a real winner here.
Cheers
Dave

Hi guys that c script thing will probably have to be a main focus release etc, but until we managed to work that out, I'll work on the next release, so maybe around #6 or #7 we'll try the local thing.

Okay but here is some feedback:
1. gtkhash seems to work fine..very nice
2. installed libgphoto2 which threw up a load of missing /usr/lib/libgphoto2 dependencies even though the /usr/lib/libgphoto2 folder exists.
Then installed Gtkam which threw up a "missing libltdl files" dependencies message.
There is no Gtkam in the menu and command line "gtkam" gives error
Xsane does appear in the menu but command line "xsane" gives same missing libltdl.so.3 file message as gtkam.
4. Also tried the xmms-1.2.11 pet from tempestuous which seems to install, no error messages, but doesn't appear in the Menu and doing "xmms" in terminal gives
5. Never used Simplemail so may have done something wrong but...
made a file in a text editor of your simple script.
Saved it as /.simplemail.sh and made it executable. Then ran from terminal and got our favourite message!
and using the script up it came. Great.
However got error messages (getting used to this now)
This is a pretty clean install but the only things I can think of relevant that may be different to yours is that I am running frugal and have changed keyboard layout to UK and changed locale to UK.

3. installed xsane+libxsane which gave similar missing dependencies message about missing loads of /usr/lib/libgphoto2 files.while loading shared libs, libltdl.so.3 .....no such file
Xsane does appear in the menu but command line "xsane" gives same missing libltdl.so.3 file message as gtkam.
4. Also tried the xmms-1.2.11 pet from tempestuous which seems to install, no error messages, but doesn't appear in the Menu and doing "xmms" in terminal gives
although it does then run Xmms.GDK warning...localle not supported ...

Realised I had to install Simplemail as an addon so found it (not obvious) atGtk Warning...locale ...
Code: Select all
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/5593
However got error messages (getting used to this now)
Hmmm..also noticed that one says GDK and the other Gtk. ??Gtk warning...Locale not supprted....
Loadplugin: failed to initialise library /lib/firefox/plugins/libunixprintplugin.so .......

Hey dave I figured out the missing libltdl.so.3, lol it was in the Devx and not included in the actual .iso, hmmmm I didn't do that, But I'll move it to the Iso, where it should be for the next release. But until then, maybe install this pet and see how you go?davesurrey wrote:ttuuxxx:

hey dave could you maybe install that last pet I posted and then uninstall libGphoto and reinstall it, then take a snapshot of the missing libs, if any because after that package is installed it shouldn't be missing anything. Below is a list of the deps for it.

Hey Dave I just tried it on a my wifes XP pc live and that libltdl.so.3.1.4.pet covers all the missing deps/libs
Just Gtkam .desktop needs editing, It somehow has two "_" <--- underscore lines in the file, which messes up the menu item, once the underscores are gone, it works fine.
I'll fix it after the movie I'm watching, lol

add Categories=Player;
delete Encoding=Legacy-Mixed
I don't know why the Encoding line is offending to xdg/jwm, or what should be put there but, simply deleting the line makes it work.

Okay, installed the new pet, uninstalled libphoto2 and then reinstalled it.
Results:
1. reinstalling libphoto2 gave no dependency errors.
2. running Xsane from Menu brought up the GUI frontend. Selected USB and it started to scan for a device but as I haven't got a scanner here that is as far as it goes. But seems fine.
Tried to do the same using terminal "xsane" and get the scanning for devices window.
Only error message is the usual GTK and GDK warning ..locale not supported.
3. Still no menu for gtkam. Ran it from terminal and it came up okay. Same GTk/GDK error messages.

Ok Guys I can't wait, lol This was going to be my surprise, lol
I spent like 2 days on xfce making a xfBurn-Gstreamer package, it was for 415, So anyways I was bored and messed around a bit, and well lets just call this little package below XFCE-TRIO
Basically its
Xfburn - Basic version I compiled on 2.14.1X tonight
Ristretto Which is a nice small image viewer with adjustable slideshow, thumbnails, zoom. really nice for the size of it:)
Screenshot: This has to be the nicest Screenshot application on puppy:) you can Select region, active window, or whole screen, plus adjustable delay, then only part that doesn't work is 'Open With' big woopie, lol
The reason why I grouped them together is because they use mostly the same xfce libs.
I also included a updated /root/.xinitrc because your dbus has to be working and this update will turn it on, once installed refresh menus, and restart X-server and you should be good to go
Trust me this is a nice package:) and only 809kb for all 3 applications.
ttuuxxx
Ps The way I hacked together these packages, they are just standalone apps, Xfce will not be installed, still using JWM

Amazing work ttuuxxx, What a gift they look great. Can´t just wait the new release...
Well my two cents. About the error "locale not supported by C library", it means just that the system locale set is not supported by the C library compiled.
You can easily fix it just using:
or
Use it and then execute any application, you can notice the error message is gone.
The LC_ALL variable Overrides all LC_* environment variables with the given value
It could happend because some locale files where missed when you compiled the C libraries.
You also could avoid these error messages just removing the LANG environment variable. BUT this also eliminates the internationalization support in all programs...

Hi ttuuxxx
Just a reminder to a request I made earlier in the thread to have pnethood to replace linneighood which does not work at least for me with my Samba LANdisk access as I did not see it in 214x4.
Thanks

Internationalization of software means programming it to be able to adapt to the user's favorite conventions (conventions such as the format for representing dates and times, monetary values, etc) there is a complete list in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locale). In ANSI C, internationalization works by means of locales. The user chooses a set of conventions by specifying a locale (via environment variables).
Using a "C", "POSIX" or "" LANG variable will tell the system to use the standard locale. In this way any program will use their deafult message, date format, etc from the ANSI C standard.
The behavior of the locale variable is peculiar to the localization control itself in each program. For example, some programs use translation libraries just reading the locale variable. If you remove those transalations, the translation is not present for a specific locale value or the local value is invalid, then this application usually show a warning and then use the satndard translation libraries that it has.
You can edit the /etc/profile file and edit the LANG=en_US variable (line 77) to make this change consistant in each boot.

Hi great work on squashing those bugs I'll include the fixes, there's one issue still left the error
'Xlib: extension "SHAPE" missing on display ":0.0".'
I read on the net how to fix it
To get the SHAPE extension, you need to load the extmod module in your xorg.conf:
Section "Module"
Load "extmod"
but dougal messed around and moved it from there. And when I try to add it to xorgwizard it doesn't work. grrr, any ideas?
#Special base config file used in Puppy Linux.
## Dougal: moved module section into xorgwizard.
