pidgin v2.6.1 pet file

#1 Post by bigfoot »

Proudly announcing the new version of Pidgin v2.6.1 I have built today.

You can get it here from Rapidshare.

My homepage is up2date.

Make shure, /etc/ld.so.conf contains /usr/local/lib before installing. You need to deinstall the old version, of course.

Currently OTR seems to refuse working with this pidgin version. I'll keep an eye on this...
Update
...investigated a bit. I copied libotr.la and libotr.so to /usr/local/lib/pidgin and got this:

Code: Select all

plugins: /usr/local/lib/pidgin/libotr.so is not usable because the 'purple_init_plugin' symbol could not be found. Does the plugin call the PURPLE_INIT_PLUGIN() macro?
Seems to libpurple which was updated, I think the otr people have to adjust their code.

tried to install 2.6.1 after an uninstall of 2.4

I cannot start up..

if I use PPM to check.. I get this.

File /usr/local/bin/pidgin has these missing library files:
libpurple.so.O

So what do I do about that?

Thanks
James

Put a link in /usr/libs

#5 Post by GrumpyWolfe »

Hi Bikerbob

Even if you followed the instructions given when he posted it for some reason pidgin will not recognize it where it is. Just make a syslink in /usr/libs and you will have no problem

Sound?

#9 Post by mattst8ler »

This version of Pidgin works great after the aforementioned modifications, but I am still having a minor issue. No sounds. I have played around with the sound tab under preferences, but nothing works. Any ideas?
Thanks again for putting this together.

common problem:

after install, go to /usr/local/lib and copy libpurple and the 2 symlinks to the following folders:
/lib
/usr/lib

make sure to copy the three all together and not one at a time, otherwise they won't work. That makes pidgin work great.

As far as sound, I'm not sure. It's always just worked for me. except for the lib problem obviously

Pidgin Sound

#12 Post by mattst8ler »

I figured out the sound issue. I had to uninstall 2.6.1, reinstall 2.4.1 and had a look at the sound tab under preferences. The word "aplay %s" was listed in the sound command box. I have no idea what this means, but I uninstalled 2.4.1, reinstalled 2.6.1, and edited the command box.
Voila! Working pidgin sound! Maybe this will help someone else with the same problem.

Thanks again for the pet.

Try opening a terminal window (rxvt) and running Pidgin from the command line. If that works (you might have to be in Pidgin's directory), does it throw up any messages about missing dependencies?

Hi socrates

Ok give me a few more bits of information like what browser you are using firefox or seamonkey. Next if you made a syslink to firefox did you name it seamonkey with no capital letters, lastly open a terminal and type pidgin --debug and see what error messages it gives like can't find libssl.so.3

Ok, I was doing a search in google but I didn't find anything, and then I was thinking that in Windows if you have your time settings wrong, you couldn't log in, so that was the problem I had my time wrong (1988 ) and now it works great, thanks
So, if you have SSL Certificate Error or Chain whatever, take a look at your time settings.

In upup467 I get SSL support unavailable.
Where can I get this?
Not included in the pet?

Does the upup467 have firefox or is it running Seamonkey 2.0 but eather way you may have to create a syslink from them in /usr/libs to get the needed ssl support or you can get the files needed out of a old copy of seamonkey and put them in /usr/libs/seamonkey. If this does not get it going for you let me know and I may be able to supply yo with a pet of fix it

Thanks GrumpyWolf
dpup476 uses SeaMonkey 1.1.18
I found an ssl lib in it's directory and I symlinked to it.
Now pidgin is connecting and working.
