Were not all just "technical minds" :) Congratulations on your switch...yes to begin with, you will have to find out all the ways to do things you used to do with Windoze with linux, and there will be a "learning curve", if you persevere you will have a system that never slows down, catches viruses or costs you money, that will run on a computer for three times as long as Windoze...worth it?

I think so :-)

Thread is depreciated as 0.7.2 doesnt work anymore since the evil empire changed their chat protocols....gee they could have told us first

You will need this one

http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=b15a ... eaa7bc68bc

download it and move it into you "/root/hard-drive" folder. You can see this from the "file" icon in the top left of your desktop.

When you reboot, you should have amsn!

in 4.2 you can also click "start">"intenet">"Meebo web chat". This will connect to various protocols (icq, msn, ail, yahoo and also facebook chat).

Hello,

i've also recently changed to Linux, doing a frugal install of the latest puppy linux and i would like to be able to talk to my friends in MSN. At first i was able to use meebo but not anymore after i installed the new version of seamonkey, due to it saying i don't have a java plugin needed?

Anyway i downloaded that file and put it in the root/hard-drive folder but i don't know what i have to do next, after rebooting?

Thanks for the help!

an new thread at least for dosbox might be a good idea so you don't get lost in here.
Not sure about amsn but for dosbox usually you need to add the SDL libraries..they should be listed in the package manager. Many games use them so are worth adding.

Thanks for replying.
I have Puppy 4.2.1
I already installed tcltk.pet for aMSN. But it says on starting aMSN that : "Loading TkCximage failed. This Module is needed to run aMSN. Please compile aMSN first, instructions how to compile are located in the file install." please help me.

for dosbox, i already have added SDL libraries. but on running dosbox message i get is :"./dosbox: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0: file too short"

Hi!

I installed

amsn_tcltk-0.97.2_8.5.2.pet

according to the instructions (in this thread) written by CatDude.

I am using puppy linux 4.2.1-k2.6.25.16. Now aMSN works well.

amsn.pet installed fine but connection fails

#59 Post by munduruku »

Dear Fellow Linux users, I uses puppy 4.2.1 and it works fine. I gave up using newer processors because my internet cable connection got hacked by microwave attacks directly in the motherboard and I need a light distro to be able to surf using older processors. We Brazilians are used to AMSN and among us BIGLINUX is the best distro, because it comes with AMSN preinstalled and it connects fine. Do you have a solution to the problem of AMSN not connection after being installed ? I am a writer and for us a good popular instant messenger is what counts when choosing a distro. By the way, I wrote our litterature book using open source, OPEN OFFICE 3.O, our book can be read at:
http://www.ensp.fiocruz.br/portal-ensp/ ... origem=doc
I tried to use puppy linux to write our book, but Abiword takes an awful lof time to open .odt files and it uses abnt and we Brazilians use a ABNT2.
