Still the minor bug with saving back to cd/dvd. The drive door closes too fast, shouldn't it stay open until you hit enter after the save? Same on 2 separate boxes.

01micko, could you describe your problem in more detail? I didn't notice anything unusual when I upgraded my 4.3 beta 2 multisession DVD+RW to 4.3 beta 3.

I only save maybe every 5th time when I shut down, so I might not have tried to save anything since I upgraded.

Hi Flash.

I am running a live dvd multisession and when I shutdown and choose "save" the session burns as it should and the disc ejects, but immediately the drive shuts again. It supposed to stay open until you press "enter" so you can retrieve the dvd (or cd) if you wish. It has only been happening since the introduction of k 2.6.30.5 or perhaps the reintroduction of aufs.

Cheers

Ah, okay, thanks. I'll look out for that, the next time I save something.

SeaMonkey shut down this morning while I was looking at FarmVille in Facebook.

Facebook and FarmVille really slow SeaMonkey down. They seem to be very sloppily designed and implemented Flash applications.

boot up problem

#66 Post by shinobar »

one of my PCs fails to boot.
with 4.3bata1 it was no problem.
but it hungs with 4.3beta2 and with beta3.
freezes after displaying 'Recognising media devices... optical'.
425 normal and -SCSI results same.

i tried remastered puppy with verbose output in /etc/rc.d/rc.country,
and found that it freezes before dialog in /etc/rc.d/rc.country.

think some modules lacking or broken for this hardware.
the PC is ThinkPad X21, with ATI Rage Mobility M graphic core.

P.S.
i remastered puppy 4.3beta3 with the kernel of beta1(kernel 2.6.29.6).
it successfully boot up my PC, ThinkPad X21.

The bug with the cd/dvd drive door closing after a save...

The drive stays open if I do not save.

Pburn is exhibiting similar behaviour, if I burn something with Pburn the drawer pops out and straight back in again... cdr-tools bug?

Hi,

I sfs-converted Wine1112_411.sfs renamed (perhaps not usefull?) to Wine1112_425.sfs and got Wine1112_425-sfs4.sfs;
there installed an old (dating ±win95 ) graphic software - IT WORKS !

Another graphic application (gcad3d): I sfs-converted ch-gCAD3D-1.30.sfs - it starts - but I don't know if all functionalities do as gcad3d requires OpenGL working (answer must be 'direct rendering: Yes' when doing glxinfo in a console). On the present machine I could not install the right nvidia driver as pets only exist for former kernels (k2.6.25.16.as 2.6.21.7 - thanks Grey !)

I also sfs-converted the googleearth.sfs - OK - but does not start without OpenGL again on the present machine (no nvidia driver). If xorg-full driver.pet installed, ggearth starts but is very-very slow..

About Sweep sound recorder: looks nice and tiny! I just regret not having received reaction from its forum to my post (posted about 2 months ago - liked just to know how to perform on-line-recording...); also the Sweep forum seems much less crowded as this one !

I enjoy the 'gradient-blueish' and mostly the 'GTK rounded'

again to Barry and other contributors many thanks for your time!
cheers
Charlie

Why is an older version of CUPS used?
I use CUPS 1.3.10 with Puppy 421 with no problems.
And that includes networking with a WINDOWS and a UBUNTU PC.

Very minor points

#70 Post by nicolas_ho_taylor »

Just installed 425 (beta3) on my old desktop - Celeron 633, 512Mb, 20Gb, and noticed:

1) the Puppy Universal Installer offers a list of 4 partitions, no more, in which to install. As I have 2 HDDs in this machine, I could have up to 8 primary partitions. This may not be a new problem, I've never tried to install to a 5th partition before.

2) the Installer does not unmount the source drive when it has finished. On my machine it insists the pup-425.sfs files must come from drive sr1, DVDROM, even though I booted from sr0, CD burner. So I move the CD to that drive. But when shutting down, it offers to copy pup-425.sfs to the hard drive (again!), but I can't eject the CD, as it's still mounted on the DVD... probably shouldn't be copying it a 2nd time. I replied No and the installation completed OK.

3) GParted comes up with such a narrow window, there's no room for the Apply button - disconcerting for beginners. Oddly, the 2nd time I ran it, the buttons were smaller and they all fit.

4) The blinky showing network activity (once networking is set up) has a different colour backgound - it's retained Windows beige.

5) As before, the Network Wizard can't handle WPA-PSK, only the older WPA-TKIP and the newer WPA2.

On the computer where I installed Beta 3, the installer detected all of my partitions. I have 1 NTFS partition, 1 swap, and 5 Ext3 partitions and they were all detected and the 3 other Puppy installs correctly identified.

I'm only using one hard drive however, so the second drive may have something to do with your problem.

Network Wizard settings do not stick

#72 Post by mawebb88 »

Network Wizard setting do not stick 100% of the time for me. So I have to re-run the connection wizard often.

Sorry no idea why this is happening.

JWM Configuration Manager

The "View" button (desktop tab> Desktop background) does not do anything (tested on 2 frugal installs)

Did we not have thumbnail pics in 4.2.1 when browsing in ROX for jpg files? Would be nice to have again.

I managed to crash Seamonkey with this error

Code: Select all

# mozilla
/usr/lib/seamonkey-1.1.18/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 26206 Segmentation fault      "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
The page was accessed from an rss feed on my site, (01miko's site>NRL stuff> Kimmorley to face contact test
Date: 14/09/2009 12:22:00
Bulldogs halfback Brett Kimmorley will take part in his first full-contact session later this week as he continues his recovery from a broken cheekbone.
view link ») it is a fox sports news page http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,865 ... 66,00.html

It's the only crash so far so it may not be Seamonkey's fault, although Flash had probs with Facebook and something else. There is some crap code out there!

My system gives the same crash. Looks like a Flash issue.

Installed Woo-ff, ran it to convert video for Walkman. Conversion successful, Gxine loaded and played output with no problems. Used only the ffmpeg that comes with 4.3, nothing additional added. Sweet..............

Interesting that when I run amixer from the command prompt I get lots of text, but no graphics as I do with alsamixer....so if the mute controls are there, I can't see/operate them.

I don't know about 4.21, but there are more drivers than in 4.1.2. The entire Gutenprint package (pre-relese of v5.2.4), with support for about 1300 printers.
