The ath5k (and ath9k) is a standard kernel module. I'm 99% sure MU included it with his kernel/modules collection.iscraigh wrote:you can see if mu posted a ath5k driver for the .27 kernel

I downloaded and frugally installed 430beta1 (2.6.29.6 kernel).
The wireless switch seems to work although the lights don't come on to indicate that.
The network wizard finds the wireless network interface OK (as wlan0 using ath5k), and I can scan for and find networks, but i can't connect to any of them (including my own, set for test purposes to open/no encryption).
Running net-setup.sh from the command line I can see: but have no idea if that is useful info

EDIT[: This is resolved. The problem was that I am a f*ing buffoon

Despite getting open wireless access to work, I couldnt get it to go in 430beta; however iscraigh's Puplet worked fine with WPA
I copied over the contents of iscraigh's rc.local to my frugal 430beta, and WPA (and WPA2) burst into life.
I have no idea what the contents of the rc.local are doing ... but in case anyone else wants to try this with another Puppy, or wants to offer comments, here it is
The thing that I'd really like to be able to do is get either the wireless switch LED to come on when I switch wireless on, OR get what happens in the aspire puplet -- which is for "wireless on" to appear on the screen in big green letters

Aspire One - sound works when live but not when installed
Really strange.. If I run one of many Puppy releases and Puplets Live
on a USB Pendrive, everything is fine and the sound works perfectly.
If I install the same release or Puplet on a USB pendrive or the internal
flash drive, everything works, except any use of the sound results in
the sound locking up (looping) on the same sound until I boot or access
the ALSA configuration routine.
This is true even when no user data is yet present (initial install/boot).
This is true with any I have tried using multiple versions of Puppy.
Any ideas? I have tried adding the options (acer) to modprobe, and it
makes no difference. Is there a script problem or some old module
being introduced during the install that is not being used during the Live
operation... ???
I run Linux on all my machines (Ubuntu Jaunty, Puppy, Mint) except my
wife's PC (XP), but I am working on her.

I've made many Puppy Sticks and all are fat16.
Not once have I been able to get a stick to work that is over 4Gig or in fat32.
I've tried an 8Gig stick with two partitions with no avail eather...

My original comment was not harsh.
I was pointing out established forum protocol on image attachment.
It's the dialup users (not me) who, quite rightly, have complained about this problem in the past.
Come on guys, this issue has been thrashed out before on the forum. Information management seems to be a leaky boat on this forum.
And even if you're unfamiliar with the history of this forum, common sense and respect for other users should determine appropriate practice.
