Sinc, did you try to load the module via the network manager? I had the same problem but it loaded the module manually and works fine now.sinc wrote:holy moly 482beta1--- I am able to boot and it finds my b44 ethernet card. no wireless though. is there any pet for a b43legacy that i could try that you know of?

Menu>setup>network wizard and hit the 'load module' button. Follow the onscreen prompts
Spup Frugal HD and USB
Root forever!
Root forever!
@DaveS
I did try to load it manually. I only see 3 modules to load though. I did a manual frugal install, would that have anything to do with it?
would i be able to copy the firmware folder from 4.30? well, i'll try that anyways.

dpup477 beta1 running kde 3.5.10 and some kde apps:
amarok, kopete, konqueror, k3b, kolourpaint, ksnapshot, kpdf, konsole
And NO, I didn't install this thru synaptic, I had these apps even before first dpup iso release, they worked on 4.1 but now with dpup it's best compatibility, those are all taken from lenny repositories.

gpos, i would like to happily report, i am now posting on the internet from within dpup. my first time since the project started, so i am excited.
i had to go to boot manager and force the b43legacy module to load but it worked.
i can boot into 482beta, force b43legacy to load and I am on the internet. i am excited.

Flawless
Upgraded to 482 with no issues. Opera 10 runs very fast. I do notice that sound volume is lacking. I have audio set to max - running Beep to get adequate levels and found that Youtube audio is hard to hear. I seem remember that an earlier version of Puppy had the same problem.
I used to keep a partition with Debian on it as backup but found Puppy was more than reliable. Now only have Ttuuxx's 4.3.1 and Dpup - great products.
Thanks for the efforts.

i'm not sure if this is something that is fixable in the release or if each person is going to have to do this individually but just as this thread is discussing

firefox is eating up my pupsave. I start with a 128mb pupsave for testing purposes and it is slowing disappearing. As mentioned in the thread its not a cache issue so I am not sure if Firefox can be set to not slowly take away space.
its up to you what version of pburn you want but it is up to 3.1.1 now i believe. this release of dpup has 2.5.6

xscreensaver...
I've never used it before so I will play around with it some more but when I first start it I get this message and I am not able to see any previews.
EDIT: Actually if you click "preview" it gives you a preview on the screen but the small preview box does not show anything.
Although i do like having the screensaver, nice addition.

sinc, this is a known idiosyncrasy of xscreensaver(in all distros), it is meant as a security measure...if you want to see previews, go to terminal and do following:
Then you can view previews, but not change them, you can only do that in root and you will get the message you saw, but you will be able to set all the settings, but not see preview.#su nobody

huh? interesting. If there is no way to get rid of the small preview screen and the warning message, I bet I won't be the only person to bring that one up .
i went through the control panel and couldn't get anything to not work for me. I liked it a lot.
well since i'm having trouble making something NOT work (everything works, shrug) i figured i would offer up some suggestions...
i installed grub and it worked fine but i miss the gfxboot. that could be some more good advertising for dpup whenever anyone installs grub from this pup .

ttuuxxx's right click gtkhash would be very helpful, especially since in the past we have sometimes had trouble getting complete downloads from dpup.org.

some people may like this idea, in the boot manager it says you can load up to 6 sfs files. in 2.14x clarf has been able modify the initrd to accept more than 20 i believe based on this thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 6&start=10
his latest initrd in 2.14x is on pg 142.
and this is small and really just personal preference but you may want to handpick the included wallpapers, or have dejan pick 'em, he is awesome at themes, but some of the included ones leave a bit to be desired. -- a right click on images "set as wallpaper" option would be cool too.
these are just some ideas, do what you will 'em, whatever, i love the product you have put out.
