problem installing WICD on puppy 4.2 full hd

#1 Post by edl »

Hi
i'm new with puppy. I have installed wicd 1.6.2.2 with package manager and all seems ok: ok dependences (i've installed also python). At the end said me that i should found in the Menu Wicd network ...The problem is that i haven't got in the Menu nothing command to run. I tried with search in forum, but nothing idea to solve my question.
thank you advanced

Do you have a link to where you downloaded the package? Also, if you run, in a console, wicd-client, what response do you get?

Do you mean official version from the wicd sourceforge site? If so, this is just a source file. A binary version, built for slackware, is available here. If you extract it to a temporary location, then copy across the contained etc, usr & var directories...then run fixmenus & restart your window manager...then, hopefully, it will work, if you've also installed dbus.

hi muggin, thanks a lot
i took file 1.6.2.2.tar.gz here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/wicd/files/
Then it was done in .pet.
and I've installed with package manager and all seems ok: ok dependences (I've installed also python). At the end said me that i should found in the Menu Wicd network ...The problem is that i haven't got in the Menu nothing command to run.
.
Sorry, I'm newbie and i haven't understood very about

. I think I should have step-to-step procedures. What's dbus?

edl, you need to read up some basics about Linux. As muggins explained, the files at the wicd homepage are just source code. They're useless until they're compiled into binaries.

That's also useless. It just repackages the source code as a dotpet.

I tried using the slackware package...installed dbus from this thread, but no go. I'm getting:
wicd-client
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/wicd/wicd-client.py", line 44, in <module>
from dbus import DBusException
ImportError: No module named dbus
As I know zot about python & dbus I'm stymied!

We need also dbus python:
