Mono is an implementation of .NET for various platforms including Linux
Android SDK is available for the Eclipse IDE
I was interested in Android SDK
and tried to install in Puppy and in Ubuntu
No luck (much head banging)
My sister tried in Windows - similar frustration
Should I persevere?
Then I tried Mono
in fact I first tried years ago when it was starting
Too unstable
Now good. Simple. Followed an instruction got a GUI.
Happy.
Should I continue with Mono?
- Shadow is a commercial .NET programmer
but can any code be compiled for Puppy?
When Puppy Chrome [not yet available even in
planning stage] becomes possible for my PC tablet
[also not yet available] then Android or Chrome
OS skills will be useful I should imagine?
MonoDevelop (the IDE I looked at) also supports c++, java and VALA [hooray!]

I installed Android and it works. Try this:
1
Download "android-sdk_r3-linux.tgz"
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
2
Unpack and place the map "android-sdk-linux" in /root/my-applications
3
Install Java
(http://www.browserlinux.com/software/jre1.6.0_11.pet)
4
Start /root/my-applications/android-sdk-linux/android
5
Then you have Android in Puppy. Check the platform you want. 1.6 is good.
(I've tested 1.6 and 2.0 successfully. Big downloads: 1.6 60Mb?? / 2.0 100 Mb??)
I`m not an M$ fan, but... Visual Basic and .NET are very nice.
It makes my think that M$ didn`t write them, they farmed it out.
Visual Basic and C# are the nicest IDE environments I`ve seen.
The extensibility and depth of their ability is almost second to none.
Mono and Glade are somewhat different I`m sure, I haven`t looked.
But I`m not really interested in developing full blown applications.
They`re over kill for anything else, utilities, system programming, etc.
Most of what Puppy needs is utilities and GUIs to make them friendly.
Puppy also needs a lot of automation, users have to do too much.
If possible... Things should work but not be seen, no GUIs, no icons.

Guys thanks for the advice.
The question is really for development of larger projects
on behalf of a programming buddy who professionally uses .NET
and to see if the transition and tools for Puppy on phones is
coming . . .
My experience with the Android SDK reminds me of the
companies who feel programmers should 'suffer'
or go through a process of cryptic crossword type assualt course
for daining to use their erstwhile product.
Do not do bad Googles - you promised
(motto is 'do no evil')
Anymore Android borgness and you will
have to be renamed Boogles.
Visual Basic was good.
Mono is very good too.
Also Mono likes monkeys.
Simian v Borg?
Simian wins.

I cleared my Android files and nearly 1GB was added to myBig downloads:
personal storage file.
That is without java or Eclipse
I have seen Android working under Eclipse now.
It looks comprehenive but will take time
getting used to . . . m m m . . .
Also I feel there was a server connection problem
that has since cleared, which was effecting my connection
and ability to download.
Will be looking at other projects but Mono
is probably of more interest at present
Thanks guys
