ATI X1650 Dual Screen

#1 Post by Mstar »

I've been successful in making this card work with Puppy in the past, but no joy with 4.3.1.

Machine is a P4 on an Intel D865GBF MoBo with 2 gig memory. Using two LCD displays fed via DVI. Works in XP and earlier versions of Puppy.

I've tried the various Catalyst drivers from ATI and the versions from MU and others here on the forum. All have ended up with a black screen.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

the 1650 is no longer supported by the Catalyst driver since april (9.4).
The last that supported is was from march (9.3).
Unfortunately 9.3 is no longer maintained, and incompatible with Kernel 2.6.3x.

So with those newer kernels, you depend on the free xorg drivers.
Here are updated drivers:

To use two screens, you might have to set up xorg.conf by hand.
I think pizzasgood released an experimental xorgwizard that supports two screens, you might ask him via personal message.

Or replace the card with a Radeon 2000 or newer, as those are still supported by the latest catalysts.
