Dpup482-beta5 testing
chromium install
Got the Google Chrome deb from Google here and installed in terminal with
Works fine, although not as fast as I thought it would be. Comparable to FF that came with dpup. Bookmarks imported from FF and it runs fine so far.
edit: screenie
Code: Select all
petget google-chrome-unstable_current_i386.deb

drec
Tried drec, works good.

Funny though, when I click this link FF crashes. The file is about 11meg, plays fine locally.

question about the eject/load CD tray button
I hope nobody takes this the wrong way, but why is it there? I can't for the life of me think of a situation I would need it. Reminds me of the cupholder windows app.
Hi abedarts, welcome to beta testing!
The first patch is here
Hope this helps.
To get the whole dpup beta 5 iso please use this command in a console:To insure your download works correctly, use wget -t0 -c, the server is set to break multiple downloads from the same ip.
Code: Select all
wget -t0 -c http://dpup.org/test/dpup482beta5-2.6.30.5/dpup-482beta5-2.6.30.5.iso
Hope this helps.

wget stuff is hereabedarts wrote:tubeguy, I saw the comment about wget, so that's something else I'm going to have to read about. Thanks for your help in getting me going.
Is this forum interested in 'I tried X and it didn't work' type comments or do you really want developers who have the tool chain and understand the project?
This particular thread is for dpup beta5 testing, so it falls under the 'I tried X and it didn't work' theme as it applies only to dpup beta5.
If you are new to this whole thing, this is a fantastic place to start out with the forums here and Puppy/Linux in general. I've learned more about Linux in the past few months here than in the last 10 years.
edit: This thread is not restricted to only developers, it's for getting feedback from folks using dpup beta 5.

Re: question about the eject/load CD tray button
It's for people who don't find the physical eject button on their PC.tubeguy wrote:I hope nobody takes this the wrong way, but why is it there? I can't for the life of me think of a situation I would need it. Reminds me of the cupholder windows app.

Everyone's report is welcome. Try to be more precise when describing errors though. "X doesn't work" doesn't give much information.

That's true even if it's not clear to whom you are saying this.dejan555 wrote:Everyone's report is welcome. Try to be more precise when describing errors though. "X doesn't work" doesn't give much information.

I investigated as to why I could not set the sidebar background for pwigets 2.2.1.
For those of you that might be interested, my modification to /usr/local/Wallpaper/AppRun is at http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 739#369739

I think tubeguy is talking to me Beem, so here is my first 'report' - basically wow, this is a real step forward, I applaud all your efforts. I'm running a frugal install on a USB stick on an Eee901. The connect wizard found the radio and hooked up to the web first time. Firefox 3.5.? looks very nice, it upgraded itself to 3.5.6 ok and I've added xmarks, Tiny menu etc with no problems. I have run into little problems but I'm going to go through the posts to see if they are already reported.
Sorry, tubeguy and you posted before me, it was supposed to be under after abedarts's postBéèm wrote:That's true even if it's not clear to whom you are saying this.dejan555 wrote:Everyone's report is welcome. Yes, I noticed I cannot set sidebar too, I'll look at your fix. Thanks.8-bit wrote:I investigated as to why I could not set the sidebar background for pwigets 2.2.1.

Hello, d-puppyists and people generally
I've just uploaded the most recent version (v. 0.1.11) of the pekwm window manager at the dpup.org repository. I created the pet file based on the *.deb that can be obtained below. However, some modif's were performed, such as using /usr/local/bin for the executable, and some duplicates were instead soft-linked.
lxpanel is highly recommended as a complement, since pekwm's out-of-the-factory menu is very general.
I've also uploaded a companion pet that contains some pekwm themes.
Here's a preview of what pekwm looks like with the nimbus theme, some programs shaded and its window processing menu. A full-screen *.png snapshot at 1280x1024 resolution is available on the dpup ftp site, at http://dpup.org/musher0/.
Any questions, I'm here! Enjoy!

I just installed streamtuner and streamripper in Dpup 482 beta 5 and I had to modify the config file for streamtuner to use beep-media-player for playing the streams and use rxvt recording, but it works!
I was able to tune in internet radio and record the same.
I tend to get classic country songs to burn to cd as audio for my wife.
I got both packages from the debian site through Puppy package manager and it was nice to have it get most of the dependencies.
The download did bomb on a python thingie called gobject, but I just disabled Python as a plugin and all still seems to work fine.
