Sound HD Intel motherboard - D945GCLF2D
Sound HD Intel motherboard - D945GCLF2D
I have the motherboard D945GCLF2D (Intel with atom 330) with the ALC662
6 channel High Definition audio.
I run the puppy from the cd-only and the sound works fain.
The same result (everything ok) and with puppy installation
on usb-flash 4GB formatted at NTFS.
I try to install the puppy on a partiton off my ssd disk (as furgal or full) but
the result was to have problem with the sound.
I tried to configure the sound (alsa wizard), i tried to change the file system from ext3 to ext2, but nothing. I tried some samples and the results was a strange noise.
Is there any solution about this problem
Thanks Kostas

Here is a link with some boot options that might help you get sound working. I am using the same MB with working sound, booting from an SD.

Kostas,
I should have been specific to be helpful. Here is the part of the thread that is important to you, I think:
Like 99% of all modern motherboards the D201GLY does support ACPI, so strictly speaking, it's not correct practice to disable the ACPI features of the Linux kernel.
It would be better practice to use a different boot parameter which affects resource handling without totally disabling ACPI, such as -
pci=biosirq
acpi=noirq
acpi=strict
pci=nosort
irqpoll
routeirq
It would be helpful to know whether you are booting from the live CD, or using Grub, syslinux etc.
If none of this makes sense, please reply and I or someone else will help you. I will be away a few days for the holiday.

Those potential boot options that pistoi0 quoted were listed by me.
If you follow the thread further, you will see that the boot options that worked for forum member slvrldy17 were:
More importantly, slvrldy17 got audio working by adding this to /etc/modprobe.conf
If you follow the thread further, you will see that the boot options that worked for forum member slvrldy17 were:
Code: Select all
irqpoll routeirq
Code: Select all
options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-dig
The final solution to the sound problem
I use the boot loader GRUB.
I added the irqpoll to the kernel line in the boot loader :
kernel /puppy431/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=puppy431 nosmp irqpoll
and the sound works fine. But i did not understand why?
Also, I would like to have the possibility to change the boot
options (like the live cd by pressing the F2 key), do you
know how to do it
Thanks Kostas

Because you have specified a particular way the (Puppy) Linux kernel should interact with your motherboard's bios.kostas801 wrote:I added the irqpoll to the kernel line in the boot loader :

This is often necessary because consumer-grade x86 bioses are written to work with an operating system called "Windows".
Easy. Press the "e" (for "edit") key.kostas801 wrote:Also, I would like to have the possibility to change the boot options (like the live cd by pressing the F2 key), do you

How can I find out if my motherboard can support dual core? I think I have an intel desktop motherboard D101GGC. It came with an emachines w3502 desktop computer. Does this motherboard support dual core processors? Is LGA775 and 800 or 533mgz FSB all I need to know to see if the motherboard supports the processor? I'm not good with computers so I don't know what these terms mean.
I read this about once a week...indeed why should it work from the cd and not from an install...should it be reported as a bug (or is it a feature )I run the puppy from the cd-only and the sound works fine.

I'm guessing that a critical module (or code) is not getting copied over during the install..one in initrd.gz
