Puppeee 4.3X
Hello
I've just tried out the latest release beta 3.3 version. The desktop looks good and runs fine on my eeepc 701.
I simply copied all the 6 files. However, how do you maintained all the settings and installs I have from my previous version?
Seamonkey 2.0, foreign fronts, and open office were among the missings.
My files in my-document folder are not there and other folders created /mnt are gone. How does the folder structure works with the new kernel?
Luckily, I could retrieve my old files by reinstalling the previous version.

Interesting, properties of /proc/eee/temperature shows "Contents indicates empty", it shows 50 when opened.
Properties of /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp shows "Contents indicates ascii text", it shows 50000.
For geany, go to Edit>Preferences>Files
Put a checkmark in "Use fixed encoding when opening files" mine is set at "Unicode ( UTF-8 )"
Good catch!BTW. does anybody know why I can't read the files in /sys/class/thermal_zone0/ with geany but with NicoEdit? The files in /proc/eee/ I can read with both editors..

@ Coolsun9:
Don't get too comfy, Beta 3.4 is now out (albeit without seamonkey ).
I can't keep up with the damn woman.
Between this and Stardust, I'm getting dizzy.
When I do a fresh (frugal) upgrade, I rename the "old" save file to something puppy won't pick up. Then I fire up the latest (with puppy pfix=ram), set up the basics and reboot to create a new save file. When it restarts, open your old save file and start migrating stuff.
Of course, stuff you really want between upgrades can be kept out of the save file for easy access. ie. seamonkey, mail, music, movies, .pets, documents etc...

Uups! I'm not the only one whith empty (vattery) iconsRhadon
Maybe I missed something, but with my Eee900 and traytemp I get only two white rectangles with no content. Moving cursor to it the message is OK, e.g. 100% and CPU Temp 52C. No matter which colors or temperatures I choose. The messages about high or critical temperature are working fine.
There must be solution for that simple problem. Where is the script I have to look for ???
Yes! works fine now!Jemimah
Hokal, can you check if the Fan script is actually starting when you switch to powersave? The command is 'ps -ef |grep fan'. If you change the thresholds, switch to performance mode, then back to powersave, and it should work.
That is very exiting. Can't wait for it. The ultimate eeepc-versionjemimah
I am waiting for Stardust to mature and then I will remaster that as a barebones Puppeee.

Rounded. Though this does resemble a mechanical device favored by a dog named Mr. Fusspot, chairman of the bank, in Terry Pratchet's "Making Money". (This fell out of a cabinet used by a previous bank executive, who believed that if the Bible is correct when it says that a good woman is worth more than emeralds, one who is skillfully bad must be of exceptional value. Oh, this is too hard to explain, you'll have to read it.)jemimah wrote:My husband tells me the rounded design resembles an unmentionable rude object...
So, rounded or square?
Could Vattery use different gradients to further distinguish charging and discharging? There's not a lot of logic to the colors, it's just a gradient, you can make them both the same color if you want, but I think it looks nicer with 2 colors. Also the gradient was it make it look different from Vattery...
If you get an empty thermometer, can you run this version from the command line and post the output?

Prehistoric, was this what you had in mind? To be easier to tell if you're color blind...

To me that draining icon looks like it is completely drained. Is that what you intended? What do the two look like when it is at 50%, both charging and draining?jemimah wrote:Prehistoric, was this what you had in mind? To be easier to tell if you're color blind...
Added: don't assume I'm just picking on you, Zigbert is about to get some feedback about what happens when video is messed up while his desktop is installing.
They'd look the same as now, only halfway full.

Or even bolder...
Any bolder than that and you can't see the hatching.

As long as you're having fun editing icons, you could always shorten the battery icon by a few pixels and put a little black hump on the top to resemble + on a battery.
So then the thermometer icon would look like a thermometer, the battery icon would look like a battery, and the colors would rise and fall to show their relative values as with the original icons.
And I like the color schemes as they were originally

Prehistoric: Love Terry Pratchett. My bookshelves groan. But since to the pure all things are pure, it's a thermometer.

@ jemimah
tried your new traytemp from console. I getrefresh rate is between 10 and 15 sec, values til now between 106 and 110.
@ trapster
Thank you. Changing encodings in prefereces did the trick.
BTW I get the same differences between /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp and /proc/eee/temperature.

Raspberry Pi without Puppy? No, thanks.

i am testing the latest beta
it works greatly if not for some stuff:
eeecontrol works perfectly but trying to turnn on the overclock results into an unusable system, i had to remove the savefile in order to be able o log again, the screen gets all garbled
battery monitor, stll doesnt work properly, not showing the colour changing...but the percentage is fine.
good job really

Maybe some degree marks would lessen the unmentionable resemblance.jemimah wrote:And here's what they'd look like together.
