At Last - The Age of Stupid - a recommendation
I've finally remembered the title....
'The Age of Stupid' by Franny [McLibel] Armstrong, starring Pete Postlethwaite
A thoroughly recommended watch with PP as an archivist in 2055 looking back, asking,
"Why didn't we stop climate change while we had the chance?"

download ppv @£4

Being in the midst of the worst winter in Pennsylvania since the 1800's I tend to concur with those who believe this whole climate crisis is a hoax. It flies in the face of common sense.

If you are aware of the overall gist of many of my posts you'll see that I often say - It's not Global Warming we should be talking about, but Global Climate Change
The difference is one of recognising the shift in EXTREMES of weather in BOTH directions
As one part of the planet experiences UNPRECEDENTED high temperatures, another experiences similar lows, or maybe drought & floods
Whichever way you look at it, to say there's 'no problem' seems stupid - the point of the film I recommend & the no problem view is promoted by big business who only stand to lose money!! [They think!]
To divide humanity into AGWs & denyers seems equally stupid, and the site you list is just a media company, with a selfish agenda, not geared toward the next generation's well-being and survival, just like equally selfish Marc Morano's site http://www.climatedepot.com/ & he's KNOWN to be paid for by BIGOIL
I also think those who continue to think 'we' have a right to continue destroying nature will be shown the error of their ways - I just wish they could destroy the bit they're on and leave my bit alone
But Lo, we are a one planet species
We live together, ....or die together
Not much of a choice, eh?
Whether we do it arguing about who is right, or actually doing something to change the status quo, could well be our final stupid act, methinks

With all due respect Aitch, the media site did not invent the emails. It is clear that data has been manipulated. The glacial melt cited in the other report was patently false, and when questioned about it the author said he was trying to draw attention to his cause. He lied.
True science is not built on lies. These people have lost all credibility.

New to puppy put I couldnt pass this up -- whats the right weather? Is it the ice age where I live would be under 1/2 mile of ice? Or the non man made global warming where green land is green or the center of the US is a sea? Posted from a solar powered computer in a solar powered house miles from the grid! LOL

My view is that the glaciers, along with the ice shelf at antarctica are melting at unprecedented rates, despite all the hoohah and denying of the evidence
It's not about the emails
http://www.uea.ac.uk/mac/comm/media/pre ... nstatement
Much of the misinformation is funded by bigoil, and bigindustry, as they try to ward off regulatory frameworks which will affect their profit lines,
......as well everyone else
I doubt you'll get a share for doing their work, and are just a patsy to their false prophecies of 'business as usual' & 'no problem'
A fairly well researched, even handed history of the problem is given here

Paul...do you ever wonder which team you support?
As a self-proclaimed environmentalist, and as one myself, I have to wonder.....

Bugsy
I think I must have a few years on you.....in my life I've seen human energy input to the planet increase by a factor of at least 10
WE now put 10x more exajoules per year, i.e. energy, than the effect of the moon's tidal pull into this planet!
It's no wonder it's warming up.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_ener ... onsumption
I can't sleep too good with the idea that re-incarnation may not happen.....
I've had too many unexplainables in my life the other way,
and it'll be a heck of a wack if it's wrong, and might be enough to change my journey through the veil...wouldn't wanna go through asleep, or worrying about mistakes I made here.....and any rate....kin follow me, I have a daughter, who'll one day ask what I did about.......xxxxxx....
and that's almost a guaranteed!

not much point, as there are no ancient egyptians to argue with in hereAitch wrote:as an aside, have you read 'Book of the Dead/Books of Breathing'?
actually i used to work with an ancient egyptian in nyc, he was in his 60s and a copt
one day i discovered he was still married, and his wife was back in cairo, so i asked him, 'shawqi, why don't you bring your wife to live with you?'
his reply: 'all women are daughters of eve'
funny that pizzasgood mentioned ceiling cat in another thread, dealing with cats is pretty much the most religious thing i do . . .

I support team freedom. I think the environmental result is better than with fascism or socialism.Paul...do you ever wonder which team you support?

Actually, there is another thing here. I long ago discovered human discourse is 90% bullshit. And that rule holds for both my side and the opposing team's side. So I try not to take fearmongering too seriously, no matter who is selling it. I figure the earth will manage to survive humanity in the long run. It's survived a hell of a lot worse.
Personally, I think AGW is pretty far down on the seriousness scale (here is an interesting graphic). I'm a bit more concerned about overpopulation, but the earth has weapons against that too, and at least some human populations are putting a cork in it. And I don't like loss of species, but really the transportation of species around is just like when the whole earth was one big Gondwanaland. As soon as we are gone, and shipping is at an end, the species will begin differentiating again.
Also there is a tendency to think of humanity as being completely a negative factor as far as the rest of the earth is concerned. That of course is foolish. Humanity is part of the earth, for better or worse. Sometimes, it is for the better. I owned part interest in a farm in northern Wyoming for a little while that was for growing hay. It only existed because of the irrigation water from a dam. Before that farm was there, it was just desert - sagebrush and greasewood (note, these are not endangered). Lots of animals got use of that farm; lots more diversity than there would have been (Mule and whitetail deer, fox, coyote, many kinds of birds including sandhill crane and Canada geese, raccoon, bobcat, etc.). The irrigation project was an old one, funded completely by the farmers, with no energy inputs, just the downhill flow of water. The farm itself has energy inputs, but could be made self-sufficient via biodiesel if the economics called for it (which eventually will happen).

Sadly Paul, I think details like this are what is likely to wipe out populations, not nature, though nature will be blamed
It is simply too much of the wrong development & arrogant selfishness
Total Cost of environmental damage = $2.2Trillion [estimated]
Courtesy Guardian/Costs report
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2 ... tal-damage
Although I don't see figures for Wars!
Migration might be a cheaper answer, to get away from the danger zones

Ah well - 2/3 profit is better than loss, eh?The cost of pollution and other damage to the natural environment caused by the world's biggest companies would wipe out more than one-third of their profits if they were held financially accountable, a major unpublished study for the United Nations has found.

Well, nature should be "blamed" since we are part of nature. Anyway "blame" is not a concept that matters to nature.Sadly Paul, I think details like this are what is likely to wipe out populations, not nature, though nature will be blamed
You are too human-centered. Step back a bit, take the broader view. The earth does not care, and will survive us. Humans will die, but that fate is unavoidable anyway.
Anyway your chart of "damages" is irrelevant to the earth. The earth does not care about "acid rain", smog, etc. Yeah, humans care about it; if I were living in Athens I'd be bothered by melting monuments. But the earth does not care.

I don't agree with you. In this age it is damned near impossible to know who is telling the unvarnished truth. I have my opinions and I will stick with them until I see evidence to change my mind. I am open to information from all camps. Thanks for your post. I will consider what you have said.Aitch wrote:Walter90
